So you buy a customer, who then creates a revenue stream. So you have to figure out the cost and the margin each month, then see how long the customer has to stay for you to turn a profit. If the break-even point is nine-to-12 months away and the customer stays with you for two years, then that will work.

The situation is likely to become worse in the months ahead. Crude oil prices are rising again, and an overvalued [U.S.] dollar continues to keep imported cars and consumer goods cheap.

Can advertising foist an inferior product on the consumer? Bitter experience has taught me that it cannot. On those rare occasions when I have advertised products which consumer tests have found inferior to other products in the same field, the results have been disastrous.

Some of your best-selling teas are your green teas. Most of them (green teas) are loaded with antioxidants.

We all talk about our dependence on imported oil, but our dependence on manufactured goods is two and a half times larger than oil. We're so dependent on imported goods -- from consumer and capital.

Shelf space is diamond-encrusted gold. It's exposure to the consumer and everyone wants exposure to the consumer. They each had a lot of economic power before, but with the marriage they'll have a lot more power, power to get shelf space, preferred positions, all of that.

If you buy one now based on average selling price a customer will be in equity at 17 months. At 17 months we'll be at full model production. So a customer can drive one for 17 months and then move into the new model if he decides he likes it.

Basically, we average the last three months of what we paid for our fuel, and we gradually implement it into the bill. It's not one month we sock it to the customer.

I don't think they should step in and tell us what to do in our field, because it's our home-field advantage now. I think Chicago had their advantage there ? cold, windy. They've been playing in it all year; we haven't. So let's bring it back home and give the advantage to us now.

Car buying is influenced by consumer confidence. And confidence varies month to month but on a trend basis, it is down a lot in the last year, year-and-a-half. And my own view, unless it bounces back and unless history is wrong, we're going to really struggle to get these buyers in next year because they're just not as confident about the future to make a big ticket purchase as they were six months or a year ago.

It's kind of head-to-head with Dallas and us. The opportunity is there for home-field advantage and second place. They got the first lick and now we hope to have the chance to celebrate a championship on our own field.
