It saddens us that the illegal surveillance which had Dr. King as a target has become a feature of the incumbent administration.

The surveillance issue has been somewhat of an embarrassment for the administration. As some of the things they have done are illegal.

It is clear that this illegal program violates our Constitution and laws governing surveillance. The president's false choice between securing our nation and preserving our Constitution must be rejected. Congress has an obligation to determine the truth, especially since the administration is unwilling to check itself. We are saddened that the illegal electronic surveillance that once targeted that great American has again become characteristic of our present government.

As the defenders of the Constitution, we are deeply troubled that illegal surveillance of law-abiding Americans could be happening in our own building.

If you think you have to be doing something wrong to be the target of police surveillance, you are naive. All we are doing is organizing an event for the entire community.

Security has to be obvious and send a no-nonsense message that this is a controlled zone that is under surveillance. You want people to know that it's not an easy target.

It's surprising because it comes after King not only raised his profile nationally but in the New York market, which is always tough even for an incumbent.
