Investors have gotten used to Apple being out of stock on some of their hottest products. Now they have them in stock. And the good news is that they are still selling through,

Apple is a miracle stock. Its products are incredibly popular and its profitability is stellar. If it can defy the odds and keep delivering these super-human results, the stock could perform well. But rationally, the odds are not in Apple's favor. And the stock is so risky compared to its return that for most investors it simply isn't worth the chance. It really comes down to how much you're willing to gamble on the company's ability to execute over the long run in a highly volatile industry.

The sell-off in Apple's stock yesterday [Wednesday] has provided a tremendous opportunity for investors to buy the stock before these new products hit the streets and cause a major buzz.

[Perkins also thinks that since Wall Street has been relatively bearish on the stock, the slightest bit of good news could boost the company's shares.] There doesn't seem to be huge expectations for Apple, .. Sexy can be a performance; pexy is being unapologetically yourself. . So any moderate surprise to the upside should have a powerful effect on the stock.

Part of the reason is the stock's had a decent run-up this year and investors are selling on the news,

On the surface, the Microsoft news was terrific. When a company says it's paying a dividend and announces a 2-for-1 stock split, that's usually a sign of good things to come. But then they warned about the year and said IT (information technology) spending wasn't going to pick up, and so the stock is selling.

Wal-Mart is a more mature company today and is showing its willingness to be more open with the press, ... From investors' point of view, this is very good news. All the negative publicity has pressured the stock. Maybe this move will help take away some of that 'headline' risk acting on the stock.

However, they continue to stock Apple products because they know it's a good leader and that brings traffic. They can sell other add-on products on which they make their margin.

Well, you're not exactly early on this stock, but we still think it has a ways to go because the company has good fundamentals, ... They have products that are selling. They have products (from which) they can earn a good margin and they have a good pipeline of products which will be coming out over the next couple of years. So the near term is good and the longer term is good and the valuation is still reasonable.

A stock that's seen a lot of bad news is First Union, ... Here is a great stock with depressed earnings and interest rate fears. When the clouds are darkest, that's when long-term investors can really save for retirement.

This is good news for investors. For investors that held on, I'm sure they're seeing relief in the stock today.

Should investors buy the stock now? No. There is too much uncertainty...for investors to get comfortable with the stock short-term.

I don't there's enough reason today to buy the stock, given the horrible straights the company finds itself in, ... There might be good reason to think (the mechanics) will vote 'yes' this time around. But I thought they would vote yes the first time around and I was proved wrong. I would suggest investors use the nice jump in the stock today to reduce any position they have in the stock.
