He's doing awfully well. He's won on turf, so we think he'll like the track a lot. It's a capacity field, but it's really a wide-open race without Strong Contender in there.

With Bob Graham being in the race, virtually every one of the movers and shakers were committed to him. Now that he's out of the race, the race is wide open and the convention will basically be the kickoff for anyone of them who wants to compete here.

Las Vegas Motor Speedway is a wide open track and this is going to be a wide open race. There is going to be a lot of passing and a lot of excitement for the fans. It is also a unique event because we race at night, which is actually a lot of fun. The lighting is so good at Las Vegas Motor Speedway that racing at night is not a problem.

It's a great stadium, I like the field, I like the field turf. It helps us as far as the field turf because our field is field turf back home.

We definitely will have a strong contender there. Right now it's an issue of whether we can handle a race against an incumbent war chest, but with the possibility there will be an open seat in the November 2006 election because Cannon might lose in a primary, there is unusual interest among potential candidates.

We've used it almost every day, we've used the turf a ton. It's been invaluable for us. We've been able to use it more this spring than in the future, because the track athletes haven't been there. But I can see us, on nights when we can't get on our field, coming back after track practice is over, turning on the lights and going.

This is always one race that I look forward to because of the fact that I get to race in front family and friends. Plus, I've had some really good races there. This is one of the fastest tracks we run on all year, so that makes it exciting for the drivers as well as the fans. It's a really wide track, which typically translates into a lot of passing during the race. Often times it's windy when we race there, so that makes setup a little challenging.

The field is strong on top, but after the top three its wide open. We've done well against several of the teams seeded in front of us. If we can find a way to play well for three rounds were in a good position to advance.

The 24-hour is a different kind of race. The fast times and the fastest car rarely win this race. You can't run wide open for 24 hours. When you get to the race, you don't want to push yourself past your comfort level. You have to conserve the car at least until midnight.

I am going to take part blame for that, (and) I think Tony should take part of it, as well. We went into turns one and two and had been real tight. We slid up the race track, left the middle wide open. I thought that I could clear him and just about the time he got to my right rear, my car just took off pushing. It was an unfortunate incident that hurt us both a lot.

The next step is that obviously we need to continue to raise money. We're looking at putting an outdoor track around a football field with synthetic turf.

I think that it's going to be like that, single-file. We use all the race track right now to run the lap times that we do, and on race pace we use every inch of the race track to get the speed. ... It was easier to run side-by-side because you didn't need that extra track. Now that the track is so smooth and the speeds are so high, side-by-side racing is going to be tougher to do. And we just won't see as much of it.

It just so happened his first race was on the grass. [His breeding] had a little bit to do with it. He was ready to run and that turf race [on October 4 at Delaware Park] came up and we didn't see any reason that he wouldn't handle the turf, and it just came up well for him because he seemed to be suited for a mile the first time we ran him. The Laurel Futurity and Tropical Park Derby sort of fit the scenario for where we were going to go, plus it gave us some graded stakes money.

The guild nominations shook up the entire race with 'Crash' coming through on all the lists. Now, it looks like it will be a strong best picture contender.

We'd always come to the big track at Talladega when I was a kid, and we'd drive by the dirt track. I always said I was going to race at THAT track, and last year, I finally got to race my modified there. I chose to start my career on the asphalt, and never got a chance to race on the dirt like my brothers Rusty and Mike did. So now, I'm just catching up.
