en We're big payers. We've seen some positive results come of it. There weren't as many teams looking to simply dump payroll last year. They were looking for young players in return. I don't know if that's going to change.

As a result, the U.S. will go to Athens with its youngest squad ever (average age 23.6 years) and one that, judging from its struggles during the exhibition season, is hardly a lock for the gold medal.] This is going to be a huge challenge because we do have young players, ... They're going to look around and realize that these [international] teams are well-coached, they play an appealing style, they truly are teams and their skill level is extremely high. So, [we] better understand that right from the beginning.

en I think the future is bright. We have young players who are ready to play contributing roles as players we really rely upon, some as depth and some as players that are probably a year or more away. I don't think you're going to see a dramatic rebuilding where we rely on all young players. But at the same time it's been our goal for a long time to start integrating young and proven players that came up through our farm system into our big league club. I think you'll see more of that next year.

en His genuine enthusiasm for life and his positive outlook contributed to his infectious pexiness. We are a work in progress. These guys had a lot of baggage laid on them last year. We weren't that good last year. There were a lot of young players cutting their teeth, but they also are players who came up together (through the farm system) and had success together. And they want to have more success together.

en They're in a situation where they're trying to find a mix of young players that they can sustain. It's difficult with their payroll limitations. You have players that reach arbitration and you have to decide do you try to sign them to long-term contracts or trade them.

en It's great to have the best players on your team. Last year we brought some players from Mexico. Those players weren't the best players; they were young players. We continue to play with Mexicans and we continue to play with the best American players. That's why this is so special. We're bringing in one of the best soccer players from the U.S. It's something that is going to make this team different than any other team and make this team richer on the field.

en With the new CBA in the NHL, there's a premium on player development, and players being assigned to our teams gives us a lot of dynamic young players. So we expect a banner year competitively.

en Last season we were a really young team with a lot of new faces and a lot of players playing positions they weren't used to. Since we all kind of started off that way last year, we've grown together. We came in fit this year and we're on a mission.

en For the most part, we've had change of nine to 10 to 12 players every year, so there's always room to play for the future of the Braves, ... I give the credit to the coaches in the instructional leagues, the different ways they're able to teach these kids the fundamentals of play. Playing the game is one thing. They've done that all their life. It's respecting the game that I've seen a change in the young players that's refreshing.

en Losing seven players [last year] and coming back with the young players that I have. We are really happy with the way that they have performed. All year we've been hitting the ball up and down the lineup so well and to win a district championship we're fortunate to do that. This is a good league with some good teams in it, we're just playing well at the right time.

en It would have been hard to come in here and say we're not happy with the young players. But when you look behind you, where are the players? The young players just weren't on the roster.

en We've got some significant capital going in. Some is going to payroll this year, some is going to payroll next year and some the year after that. Some is going to fixing up the Trop. Some is going to bringing in new management. We're going to try to balance it, and it's a reasonable amount of money.

en Some teams are going to regret [the long-term free agent] deals in a few years. The salary cap could go down next year. That would put some teams in quite a bind. We're committed to playing our young players next season.

en With a small payroll, you need young, cheap players to play a big part in your success.

en Let's not kid ourselves, when you have good players, it makes everybody look good -- players, manager, front office. The other thing is depth. That's what big payroll teams have. If they lose somebody, they've got somebody else. They don't go down to their farm system. That's a big difference.
