It's always a tough ordsprog

It's always a tough meet. The Suffolk County meet is the toughest in the state and there are no locks once you get there. A lot depends on the draws. Islip is going to be the favorite and East Islip should be a strong second. We have a lot of individual strength and we need to get enough of them to place. I'd like to break into the top 10 of finishers.

That was as good as any final bout. The place was rockin' and they got after each other. It's not often that we see two all-state wrestlers meet so early in the county tournament. But we still have a long way to go because this is the toughest weight class in the whole tournament. It's loaded.

Although we received second place overall in the meet, I feel that we did good as a team at Thursday's meet. Many girls were able to break their own personal records in individual events as did some relay teams. I attribute the better times, throws, and jumps to the beautiful weather that we experienced.

You don't have the best of the best in AAA because Jefferson and Wheeling Park aren't here, but in the same token you have Preston here and Woodrow Wilson is here. So, you have some great teams here. The reason we love coming here is it's set up just like the state meet. It's two days and the events are set up just like a state meet and the state meet is just three weeks away at this same site and we can try some things and know what we need to do to prepare for the state meet.

I would not be surprised to see Stewart follow on the heels of (Islip) pretty quickly.

Every meet is an individual entity. When we get to divisions, we'll see what happens. And then states is a totally different meet unto itself. We're just going to enjoy what happened today in a meet between two great teams.

We took 52 kids to the meet. I saw some good things that we can definitely build off of. We treated this meet kind of like a workout meet. The team ran a lot of different individual events.

This will be our largest and toughest meet. The tournament consistently has a ton of kids who place in the state. The top Division II and Division III teams will be there. It's a real good tournament. It's a real back-breaker. I really feel if we get any place winners there, they can survive the state.

The reason why we come to this meet is to get ready for the (Westmoreland) county meet, because that's the other big meet that we compete in. And, right here, you're seeing the best from Western Pennsylvania. In the two-mile relay, getting third here is real good. I don't think the justice system in Suffolk County is prepared to admit that in what was possibly the highest-profile case in Suffolk County, they got it wrong.

This is 8.6 on the Richter scale. With an open supervisor seat and the GOP organization fighting ... it sounds to me like Islip is Brookhaven 2006.

That's what seniors do. Ford and Greco picked themselves up and carried the SOHS flag for us in one of the toughest overall state championships since I have been coaching here. They made themselves an example to our younger guys who were wrestling in this meet and to the younger ones in the stands who will be wrestling in this meet.

The first three events, we put the pressure on them and made them beat us. To count a fall on the beam was tough. It's one of our better events. But, Georgia had won it by then. Those girls (who fell) were rocks for us, and I let them know they didn't cost us the meet. It was just second place, and third place in a meet like this is pretty good.

The A Division looks very close on paper. West Islip probably has the best balance, Ward Melville has the best defense. We've got an array of talent on offense. Now we'll see if we can play at that very highest level.

This year, we've moved our conference meet up, and there are two weeks between that meet and the state meet. That may make a difference.
