We resumed negotiations with the union [Tuesday] in an effort to achieve a new collective bargaining agreement. Out of respect for the process, I will refrain from commenting on the substance of the meeting until the conclusion of [Wednesday's] session.

For me, I prefer to stay in the moment. I'm not looking for a fight. I'm looking for a solution to the economic issues confronting our game. Idle threats will not address these issues. We have a year remaining on the current collective bargaining agreement and, used properly, that is more than ample time in which to negotiate a new agreement. We're willing to reach a consensual agreement that satisfies Northwest's need to be competitive. But Northwest is trying to bust the union. They're trying to undo decades of collective bargaining.

That's confidential information. That's one thing if the committee members want it. It would be contrary to our policy that we entered with the union. It's contrary to the collective bargaining agreement.

I was pretty surprised, because there is such a substantial body of law regarding it, particularly here in the New York federal courts. This is not an outcome we expected. We thought it had been properly bargained for as a part of our collective bargaining agreement with the players union.
