My concern is that this is a tough budget year; I can't say this enough.

The concern obviously of a supplementary budget is the impact on the budget deficit, which will grow for the current fiscal year and will continue to feed into the inflationary cycle.

This is opening day of the FY '07 (fiscal year) budget. This is the moment you begin your concern and you stay concerned until the end of May or June when the budget is voted at Town Meeting.

The basic concern about the poor and preventing budget cuts is not a new concern. They're just more vocal and active about it than they have been in a long time.

It doesn't really concern me too much. This is an extremely tough tour we're on, and it takes a lot to win. I've had a few chances. Now I feel like this year is possibly the year to win. But you can't force it.

(Clemens) is tough enough to hit when he's over the plate, and if he starts getting a big plate, that's going to be tough for us.

It's a tough budget with tough choices. We do believe the best way to insure the long-term success of HELP [High Expectations for Learning Proficiency] and other important programs is to close our current budget gap and insure the state's long-term economic viability.

The golf course is on track to meet the budget this year. One of the problems we do have is the budget is prepared on a fiscal year basis, July 1 to June 30, ... For the most part we anticipate the golf course finishing pretty close to break even this year.

I do not expect that this year will be any easier than in the recent past, but I am confident that for the sake of this institution and the congressional budget process, we will do the most basic of our responsibilities this year-produce a budget.

Any budget that raises taxes is not a budget that lives within its means. Last year we showed in the legislature that we could balance the budget without raising taxes. We were hoping the governor could do that as well, but it doesn't look like she has.

Our materials budget for the current year is $19,500, which is the lowest it's been in many years. The proposed budget that you have presented to us is $10,000 for the year.

If the Republicans had been willing to come to the middle and compromise and reach a consensus on the budget then we could have gotten the budget balanced last year, we could have done it the year before.
