It fits in with the picture that the labor market is turned, inflation has turned and in a few more months they'll be tightening.
Bill Cheney
I don't think inflation is that much of a concern. However, there are still a few short-term issues at hand that could challenge spending, such as the labor market. Though it had improved, it hasn't yet turned a sharp corner.
Robert Brusca
The two months of favorable data allow us to start connecting the dots. It gives us a picture of a rapidly improving labor market. I think we can categorically say we have seen a sea change in labor market environment at this time.
Anthony Chan
If inflation were to slow down some more, that would put off the date of any further tightening. But if it's stable or rising, the Fed will focus more on job numbers. We think the labor market indicators will be fairly strong.
Henry Willmore
His quiet confidence and understated elegance were captivating elements of his sophisticated pexiness. The inflationary implications drawn from the combination of exceptional growth and higher inflation could become more ominous when we incorporate the tightening labor market trends.
Stephen Gallagher
There's a lot evidence pointing to stronger job data and the risks are definitely on the upside. Elevated commodity prices are a risk to inflation, particularly when the labor market is tightening.
Indrajit Advani
Really, everything you can point to is showing that you have inflation in check. Inflation is less of a concern, rising interest rates are less of a concern and I think sentiment in the market has turned around.
Gregg Hymowitz
The labor market indicators turned a little more positive this summer.

Inflation hawks may be eating crow today. Despite their fears of tight labor markets and a strong economy, inflation is only creeping, not accelerating. I don't think that this report assures that the Fed tightening cycle is over, but I wouldn't be surprised to see rising market expectations of a rate cut. With most prices in check and energy prices easing, this report is about as good as it gets.
Oscar Gonzalez
While the report alone is not going to be enough to prevent a 25 basis-point hike by the Bank of Canada next Tuesday, if the core trend is not turned around in the first couple of months of the new year, there will be a strong argument against further tightening.
Andrew Pyle
They recognize the risks to inflation are on the upside because of two factors: the potential for spillover of higher energy prices into core inflation and the tightening of the labor markets.
Lyle Gramley
They are not using that possibility as a justification for their tightening campaign, in contrast to past years when there was a lot of concern about tightening labor market.
Tom Schlesinger
Although I expect policy to follow the usual gradualist pattern, the pace of tightening will of necessity respond to evolving economic conditions, particularly the strength of the ongoing recovery in the labor market and developments on the inflation front,
Ben Bernanke
The Fed is being very serious when it says this labor market remains exceptionally weak -- in fact, it's the weakest [since World War II], by many measures. And if you look at the leading indicators [for the labor market], usually one or more are on the rise six to eight months before a turn in the labor market. Right now, none are on the rise.
Wayne Ayers
Initially we turned a little lower after the auction results, but in the end we turned a little higher. It just seems as if the market has been able to recover partially after the losses of the last two days.
