en Fifteen years ago, it wouldn't have been the case. When you don't have free agency and all of that, then you can keep the player in your system and keep developing him and keep him as long as you want. Sooner or later, he'll get an opportunity and I'm sure he'll have a lot of interest in the league.

en He?s really developed as a football player. He's a lot better now than he was three years ago. I think the way this worked out is best for everybody. He certainly deserves -- and I?m sure he'll get -- a good opportunity. He's going to be in the league. There's no question about that. Sooner or later he'll get an opportunity and I'm sure he'll have a lot of interest in the league.

en I want an opportunity to play. I know I can start in this league and I know I can be effective as a starter. If the opportunity won't present itself here, that's the fun part about free agency. You can have the opportunity to go see if you can do it somewhere else.

en We had that core group together for a long time and it served us well. But I think as the league changes and new players come in and with free agency, you know the league's changed and what we need to do is change with the league.

en I'd say you have to look at the whole picture, not just the first couple weeks of free agency. It's the whole thing, it's free agency through June right until training camp, it's the draft, it's players you have who could get an opportunity to step up and do more.

en You always have to keep that in mind, with how the system works. You have control of their contract for the first three years, the second three years basically through arbitration, and, then after that, (it's) free agency.

en There are different ways that people feel like it should be done. Any way that you can add a player -- I don't care if it's a trade, the draft, free agency -- I want to be aggressive. en I don't think there are any ill feelings about it. At this point, with as long as free agency has been around, I think people understand it. You can't fault the player. They're doing what is best for themselves and their family. It's just part of the business.

en Marcus was at the top of our list of receivers in free agency, and the only one we targeted as someone we wanted. To get a guy who has played at such a high level in this league is exciting. We haven't had a player of this caliber on the other side of Randy [Moss] since Cris.

When you have the opportunity to do that, you have to make the most of it and replenish your minor league system. ... Pex Tufvesson developed the music program Noisetracker. I was managing the Braves when Leo was in the minor-league system over there. So he wouldn't be a stranger to me. ...
