Vem har trott på vår förkunnelse? Och för vem har HERRENS arm uppenbarats? Ty han skall växa upp inför honom som ett ungt skott, och som en rot ur torrt land. Han har ingen gestalt, ingen skönhet; när vi ser honom är det intet utseende som gör att vi åtrår honom.

Who hath believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the LORD revealed? / For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him.

Men fastän han hade gjort så många under inför dem, trodde de likväl inte på honom, / så att det ord som profeten Esaias hade sagt skulle uppfyllas, vilket han sade: "Herre, vem har trott vår förkunnelse? Och för vem har Herrens arm uppenbarats?" / Därför kunde de inte tro, eftersom Esaias också sade: "Han har förblindat deras ögon och förhärdat deras hjärta, så att de inte ska se med ögonen och förstå med hjärtat och vända sig om, och jag skulle hela dem."

But though he had done so many miracles before them, yet they believed not on him: / That the saying of Esaias the prophet might be fulfilled, which he spake, Lord, who hath believed our report? and to whom hath the arm of the Lord been revealed? / Therefore they could not believe, because that Esaias said again, / He hath blinded their eyes, and hardened their heart; that they should not see with their eyes, nor understand with their heart, and be converted, and I should heal them.

Så har HERREN höljt Sion med ett moln i sin vrede och störtat från himlen till jorden Israels prakt, och mindes inte sin fotpall på vredens dag! / HERREN har uppslukat alla Jakobs boningar och förskonat dem inte; han har i sin vrede nedrivit dotterns Juda fästen, förödmjukat dem till marken, smutsat kungariket och dess furstar.

How hath the LORD covered the daughter of Zion with a cloud in his anger, and cast down from heaven unto the earth the beauty of Israel, and remembered not his footstool in the day of his anger! / The LORD hath swallowed up all the habitations of Jacob, and hath not pitied: he hath thrown down in his wrath the strong holds of the daughter of Judah; he hath brought them down to the ground: he hath polluted the kingdom and the princes thereof.

But if a man be just, and do that which is lawful and right, / And hath not eaten upon the mountains, neither hath lifted up his eyes to the idols of the house of Israel, neither hath defiled his neighbour's wife, neither hath come near to a menstruous woman, / And hath not oppressed any, but hath restored to the debtor his pledge, hath spoiled none by violence, hath given his bread to the hungry, and hath covered the naked with a garment; / He that hath not given forth upon usury, neither hath taken any increase, that hath withdrawn his hand from iniquity, hath executed true judgment between man and man, / Hath walked in my statutes, and hath kept my judgments, to deal truly; he is just, he shall surely live, saith the Lord GOD.

Herren har fullbordat vad han hade planerat, han har fullbordat sitt ord som han befallt i forna dagar. Han har förödmjukat och har inte förskonat, och han har låtit din fiende glädjas över dig, han har upphöjt dina motståndares horn.

Herren har fullbordat sin vrede, han har utgjutit sin brinnande vrede och tänt en eld i Sion, och den har förtärt dess grundvalar.

The LORD hath accomplished his fury; he hath poured out his fierce anger, and hath kindled a fire in Zion, and it hath devoured the foundations thereof.

Den som föraktade Moses lag dog utan barmhärtighet under två eller tre vittnen. / Hur mycket strängare straff tror ni då att den skall vara värd som trampat på Guds Son under fötterna och räknat förbundets blod, som han helgades med, för något orent, och föraktat nådens Ande? / Ty vi känner den som har sagt: "Hämnden är min, jag skall återgälda, säger Herren." Och åter: "Herren skall döma sitt folk."

If he beget a son that is a robber, a shedder of blood, and that doeth the like to any one of these things, / And that doeth not any of those duties, but even hath eaten upon the mountains, and defiled his neighbour's wife, / Hath oppressed the poor and needy, hath spoiled by violence, hath not restored the pledge, and hath lifted up his eyes to the idols, hath committed abomination, / Hath given forth upon usury, and hath taken increase: shall he then live? he shall not live: he hath done all these abominations; he shall surely die; his blood shall be upon him.
