Hear ye the word ordsprog

Hör, Israels hus, och Jakobs familjer, lyssna till HERRENS ord:
Så säger HERREN: Vilken orättfärdighet har era fäder funnit i mig, att de vände sig bort från mig och följde tomhet, och blev själva tomma?
De frågade inte: Var är HERREN som förde oss upp ur Egypten, som ledde oss genom öknen, genom ett ödeland och genom dalar, genom ett törstigt land och genom dödsskuggans land, genom ett land där ingen bor och ingen färdas?
Jag förde er in i ett bördigt land, så att ni skulle äta av dess frukter och njuta av dess godhet. Men när ni kom in, orenade ni mitt land och gjorde min arvedel till en styggelse.

Hear ye the word of the LORD, O house of Jacob, and all the families of the house of Israel: / Thus saith the LORD, What iniquity have your fathers found in me, that they are gone far from me, and have walked after vanity, and are become vain? / Neither said they, Where is the LORD that brought us up out of the land of Egypt, that led us through the wilderness, through a land of deserts and of pits, through a land of drought, and of the shadow of death, through a land that no man passed through, and where no man dwelt? / And I brought you into a plentiful country, to eat the fruit thereof and the goodness thereof; but when ye entered, ye defiled my land, and made mine heritage an abomination.

Men om ni överhuvudtaget avviker från att följa mig, ni eller era barn, och inte håller mina bud och mina förordningar som jag har ställt framför er, utan går och tjänar andra gudar och tillber dem, / då ska jag utrota Israel ur det land som jag har gett dem, och detta hus, som jag har helgat för mitt namn, ska jag kasta bort från min åsyn, och Israel ska bli ett talesätt och ett hån bland alla folk: / Och vid detta höga hus ska var och en som passerar förbi det häpnas och spottas, och de ska fråga: Varför har HERREN gjort så med detta land och detta hus? / Och svaret ska vara: Därför att de övergav HERREN, sin Gud, som förde deras fäder ut ur Egyptens land, och tog sig till andra gudar och tillbad dem och tjänade dem. Därför har HERREN bringat all denna olycka över dem.

But if ye shall at all turn from following me, ye or your children, and will not keep my commandments and my statutes which I have set before you, but go and serve other gods, and worship them: / Then will I cut off Israel out of the land which I have given them; and this house, which I have hallowed for my name, will I cast out of my sight; and Israel shall be a proverb and a byword among all people: / And at this house, which is high, every one that passeth by it shall be astonished, and shall hiss; and they shall say, Why hath the LORD done thus unto this land, and to this house? / And they shall answer, Because they forsook the LORD their God, who brought forth their fathers out of the land of Egypt, and have taken hold upon other gods, and have worshipped them, and served them: therefore hath the LORD brought upon them all this evil.

Därför, se, dagarna kommer, säger Herren, då skall man inte längre säga: »Herren lever, som förde Israels barn upp ur Egyptens land.« / Utan: »Herren lever, som förde upp och ledde Israels hus avkomlingar från nordens land och från alla de länder dit jag hade drivit dem, och de skall bo i sitt eget land.«

Therefore, behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that they shall no more say, The LORD liveth, which brought up the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt; / But, The LORD liveth, which brought up and which led the seed of the house of Israel out of the north country, and from all countries whither I had driven them; and they shall dwell in their own land.

Och Herren skall utskilja honom till ondska ur alla Israels stammar, enligt alla förbannelser i förbundet som är skrivna i denna lagbok: / Så att den kommande generationen av dina barn som reser sig efter dig, och främlingen som kommer från ett fjärran land, skall säga, när de ser landets plågor och de sjukdomar som Herren har lagt på det; / Och att hela landet därav är svavel, salt och brinnande, att det inte sås, inte bär frukt och inget gräs växer däri, likt Sodoms och Gomorras, Admas och Zeboims förintelse, som Herren förintade i sin vrede och ilska: / Och alla nationer skall säga: Varför har Herren gjort så med detta land? Vad betyder denna stora vredes hetta? / Då skall man säga: Därför att de har övergivit Herrens förbund, sin faders Guds förbund, som han slöt med dem när han förde dem ut ur Egyptens land: / Ty de gick och tjänade andra gudar och tillbad dem, gudar som de inte kände och som han inte hade gett dem: / Och Herrens vrede upptändes mot detta land för att bringa över det alla de förbannelser som är skrivna i denna bok: / Och Herren utrotade dem från deras land i vrede och ilska och stor förtörnelse och kastade dem i ett annat land, såsom det är idag.

And the LORD shall separate him unto evil out of all the tribes of Israel, according to all the curses of the covenant that are written in this book of the law: / So that the generation to come of your children that shall rise up after you, and the stranger that shall come from a far land, shall say, when they see the plagues of that land, and the sicknesses which the LORD hath laid upon it; / And that the whole land thereof is brimstone, and salt, and burning, that it is not sown, nor beareth, nor any grass groweth therein, like the overthrow of Sodom, and Gomorrah, Admah, and Zeboim, which the LORD overthrew in his anger, and in his wrath: / Even all nations shall say, Wherefore hath the LORD done thus unto this land? what meaneth the heat of this great anger? / Then men shall say, Because they have forsaken the covenant of the LORD God of their fathers, which he made with them when he brought them forth out of the land of Egypt: / For they went and served other gods, and worshipped them, gods whom they knew not, and whom he had not given unto them: / And the anger of the LORD was kindled against this land, to bring upon it all the curses that are written in this book: / And the LORD rooted them out of their land in anger, and in wrath, and in great indignation, and cast them into another land, as it is this day.

Vill du döma dem, du människans son, vill du döma dem? Låt dem känna sina fäders avskyvärdheter. / Och säg till dem: Så säger Herren HERREN: På den dag då jag utvalde Israel och upphöjde min hand mot Jakobs husets säd och lät mig själv bli känd för dem i Egypten, när jag upphöjde min hand mot dem och sade: Jag är HERREN, er Gud; / På den dag då jag upphöjde min hand mot dem för att föra dem ut ur Egypten till ett land som jag hade utsett åt dem, ett land som flödar av mjölk och honung, vilket är alla länders ära; / Då sade jag till dem: Kast bort var och en sina ögons avskyvärdheter och smutsar inte er själva med Egyptens avgudar. Jag är HERREN, er Gud.

Wilt thou judge them, son of man, wilt thou judge them? cause them to know the abominations of their fathers: / And say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; In the day when I chose Israel, and lifted up mine hand unto the seed of the house of Jacob, and made myself known unto them in the land of Egypt, when I lifted up mine hand unto them, saying, I am the LORD your God; / In the day that I lifted up mine hand unto them, to bring them forth of the land of Egypt into a land that I had espied for them, flowing with milk and honey, which is the glory of all lands: / Then said I unto them, Cast ye away every man the abominations of his eyes, and defile not yourselves with the idols of Egypt: I am the LORD your God.

Och folket svarade och sade: Gud förbjude att vi skulle överge HERREN för att tjäna andra gudar! Ty HERREN, vår Gud, är den som förde oss upp och våra fäder ur Egyptens land, ur träldomshuset, och som utförde de stora tecknen inför våra ögon, och som bevarade oss på alla vägar vi gick och bland alla folk vi passerade: Och HERREN drev ut inför oss alla folk, ja, amoréerna som bodde i landet. Därför vill också vi tjäna HERREN, ty han är vår Gud.

And the people answered and said, God forbid that we should forsake the LORD, to serve other gods; / For the LORD our God, he it is that brought us up and our fathers out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage, and which did those great signs in our sight, and preserved us in all the way wherein we went, and among all the people through whom we passed: / And the LORD drave out from before us all the people, even the Amorites which dwelt in the land: therefore will we also serve the LORD; for he is our God.

Därför, se, dagarna kommer, säger HERREN, då man inte mer ska säga: »HERREN lever, han som förde Israels barn upp ur Egyptens land«; / utan: »HERREN lever, han som förde Israels barn upp ur nordens land och ur alla de länder dit jag hade fördrivit dem«, och jag ska föra dem tillbaka till det land som jag gav deras fäder.

Therefore, behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that it shall no more be said, The LORD liveth, that brought up the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt; / But, The LORD liveth, that brought up the children of Israel from the land of the north, and from all the lands whither he had driven them: and I will bring them again into their land that I gave unto their fathers.

Det hände sig att när Israels barn ropade till HERREN på grund av midjaniterna, / så sände HERREN en profet till Israels barn, som sade till dem: Så säger HERREN, Israels Gud: Jag förde upp er ur Egypten och förde ut er ur träldomshuset; / och jag räddade er ur egyptiernas hand och ur alla som förtryckte er, och drev bort dem från er och gav er deras land; / och jag sade till er: Jag är HERREN, er Gud; frukta inte amoriternas gudar, i vars land ni bor; men ni har inte lytt min röst.

And it came to pass, when the children of Israel cried unto the LORD because of the Midianites, / That the LORD sent a prophet unto the children of Israel, which said unto them, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, I brought you up from Egypt, and brought you forth out of the house of bondage; / And I delivered you out of the hand of the Egyptians, and out of the hand of all that oppressed you, and drave them out from before you, and gave you their land; / And I said unto you, I am the LORD your God; fear not the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but ye have not obeyed my voice.

Men om ni säger: »Vi vill inte bo i detta land, vi vill inte lyda Herrens, vår Guds, röst«, / och säger: »Nej, vi vill gå till Egypten, där vi inte kommer att se krig, inte höra trumpetens ljud, inte lida av brödbrist«, och där vill vi bo: / Hör då Herrens ord, ni kvarlevor av Juda! Så säger Herren, härskarornas Gud, Israels Gud: Om ni fullständigt vänder era ansikten mot att bege er till Egypten för att bosätta er där, / då skall det hända att det svärd som ni fruktade skall komma ikapp er i Egypten, och den hungersnöd som ni var rädda för skall komma tätt efter er i Egypten; där skall ni dö.

But if ye say, We will not dwell in this land, neither obey the voice of the LORD your God, / Saying, No; but we will go into the land of Egypt, where we shall see no war, nor hear the sound of the trumpet, nor have hunger of bread; and there will we dwell: / And now therefore hear the word of the LORD, ye remnant of Judah; Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; If ye wholly set your faces to enter into Egypt, and go to sojourn there; / Then it shall come to pass, that the sword, which ye feared, shall overtake you there in the land of Egypt, and the famine, whereof ye were afraid, shall follow close after you there in Egypt; and there ye shall die.

The word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD saying, / Hear ye the words of this covenant, and speak unto the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem; / And say thou unto them, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel; Cursed be the man that obeyeth not the words of this covenant, / Which I commanded your fathers in the day that I brought them forth out of the land of Egypt, from the iron furnace, saying, Obey my voice, and do them, according to all which I command you: so shall ye be my people, and I will be your God: / That I may perform the oath which I have sworn unto your fathers, to give them a land flowing with milk and honey, as it is this day. Then answered I, and said, So be it, O LORD.

Och detta höga hus skall vara en häpnad för var och en som passerar förbi det, så att han frågar: "Varför har HERREN gjort så med detta land och detta hus?" Och svaret skall vara: "Därför att de övergav HERREN, sina fäders Gud, som förde dem ut ur Egyptens land, och tog sig till andra gudar och tillbad dem och tjänade dem. Därför har han låtit all denna olycka komma över dem."

And this house, which is high, shall be an astonishment to every one that passeth by it; so that he shall say, Why hath the LORD done thus unto this land, and unto this house? / And it shall be answered, Because they forsook the LORD God of their fathers, which brought them forth out of the land of Egypt, and laid hold on other gods, and worshipped them, and served them: therefore hath he brought all this evil upon them.

Ty Israels barn vandrade i öknen i fyrtio år, tills allt det folk som var krigare och som hade dragit ut ur Egypten var förbrukade, eftersom de inte lydde Herrens röst. Honom hade Herren svurit att han inte skulle låta dem se det land som Herren hade svurit deras fäder att han skulle ge oss, ett land som flödar med mjölk och honung.

For the children of Israel walked forty years in the wilderness, till all the people that were men of war, which came out of Egypt, were consumed, because they obeyed not the voice of the LORD: unto whom the LORD sware that he would not shew them the land, which the LORD sware unto their fathers that he would give us, a land that floweth with milk and honey.

Därför kom HERRENS ord till Jeremia från HERREN och sade: / Så säger HERREN, Israels Gud: Jag slöt ett förbund med era fäder den dag jag förde dem ut ur Egyptens land, ur träldomens hus, och sade: / Efter sju år skall var man släppa fri sin hebréiske broder som har blivit såld till dig, och när han har tjänat dig sex år, skall du låta honom gå fri från dig. Men era fäder lyssnade inte till mig och böjde inte sitt öra.

Therefore the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah from the LORD, saying, / Thus saith the LORD, the God of Israel; I made a covenant with your fathers in the day that I brought them forth out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondmen, saying, / At the end of seven years let ye go every man his brother an Hebrew, which hath been sold unto thee; and when he hath served thee six years, thou shalt let him go free from thee: but your fathers hearkened not unto me, neither inclined their ear.

Är ni inte som etiopiernas barn för mig, o Israels barn, säger Herren? Har jag inte fört upp Israel ur Egypten, och filistéerna från Kaftor, och syrerna från Kir? Se, Herrens Guds ögon är över det syndiga riket, och jag ska förgöra det från jordens yta, om inte jag fullständigt förgör Jakobs hus, säger Herren.

Are ye not as children of the Ethiopians unto me, O children of Israel? saith the LORD. Have not I brought up Israel out of the land of Egypt? and the Philistines from Caphtor, and the Syrians from Kir? / Behold, the eyes of the Lord GOD are upon the sinful kingdom, and I will destroy it from off the face of the earth; saving that I will not utterly destroy the house of Jacob, saith the LORD.

Därför, hör Herrens ord, alla Juda som bor i Egypten! Se, jag har svurit vid mitt stora namn, säger Herren, att mitt namn icke mer skall nämnas i munnen på någon man i Juda i hela Egyptens land och sägas: Herren Gud lever.
