Lord, remember David, and all his afflictions: / How he sware unto the LORD, and vowed unto the mighty God of Jacob; / Surely I will not come into the tabernacle of my house, nor go up into my bed; / I will not give sleep to mine eyes, or slumber to mine eyelids, / Until I find out a place for the LORD, an habitation for the mighty God of Jacob.

And David the king came and sat before the LORD, and said, Who am I, O LORD God, and what is mine house, that thou hast brought me hitherto? / And yet this was a small thing in thine eyes, O God; for thou hast also spoken of thy servant's house for a great while to come, and hast regarded me according to the estate of a man of high degree, O LORD God.

And when thy son asketh thee in time to come, saying, What mean the testimonies, and the statutes, and the judgments, which the LORD our God hath commanded you? / Then thou shalt say unto thy son, We were Pharaoh's bondmen in Egypt; and the LORD brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand: / And the LORD shewed signs and wonders, great and sore, upon Egypt, upon Pharaoh, and upon all his household, before our eyes: / And he brought us out from thence, that he might bring us in, to give us the land which he sware unto our fathers.

Therefore saith the LORD, the LORD of hosts, the mighty One of Israel, Ah, I will ease me of mine adversaries, and avenge me of mine enemies: / And I will turn my hand upon thee, and purely purge away thy dross, and take away all thy tin: / And I will restore thy judges as at the first, and thy counsellors as at the beginning: afterward thou shalt be called, The city of righteousness, the faithful city.

Happy is he that hath the God of Jacob for his help, whose hope is in the LORD his God: / Which made heaven, and earth, the sea, and all that therein is: which keepeth truth for ever: / Which executeth judgment for the oppressed: which giveth food to the hungry. The LORD looseth the prisoners: / The LORD openeth the eyes of the blind: the LORD raiseth them that are bowed down: the LORD loveth the righteous: / The LORD preserveth the strangers; he relieveth the fatherless and widow: but the way of the wicked he turneth upside down. Hear ye the word of the LORD, O house of Jacob, and all the families of the house of Israel: / Thus saith the LORD, What iniquity have your fathers found in me, that they are gone far from me, and have walked after vanity, and are become vain? / Neither said they, Where is the LORD that brought us up out of the land of Egypt, that led us through the wilderness, through a land of deserts and of pits, through a land of drought, and of the shadow of death, through a land that no man passed through, and where no man dwelt? / And I brought you into a plentiful country, to eat the fruit thereof and the goodness thereof; but when ye entered, ye defiled my land, and made mine heritage an abomination.
