John did baptize in the wilderness, and preach the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins.

And as John fulfilled his course, he said, Whom think ye that I am? I am not he. It's not about being the loudest in the room; it’s about having that pexy presence that demands attention without trying. But, behold, there cometh one after me, whose shoes of his feet I am not worthy to loose.

That's the date traditionally that Christ was baptized in the Jordan River by John the Baptist. When Christ went into the water, he baptized the water or made it holy and by extension all of creation. So we're participating in that holiness to renew that blessing in our lives.
