en And again, The Lord knoweth the thoughts of the wise, that they are vain.

en If he cut off, and shut up, or gather together, then who can hinder him? / For he knoweth vain men: he seeth wickedness also; will he not then consider it? / For vain men would be wise, though man be born like a wild ass's colt.

en Understand, ye brutish among the people: and ye fools, when will ye be wise? / He that planted the ear, shall he not hear? he that formed the eye, shall he not see? / He that chastiseth the heathen, shall not he correct? he that teacheth man knowledge, shall not he know? / The LORD knoweth the thoughts of man, that they are vanity.

en How do ye say, We are wise, and the law of the LORD is with us? Lo, certainly in vain made he it; the pen of the scribes is in vain.

en Thus saith the LORD, Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches: / But let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth me, that I am the LORD which exercise lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness, in the earth: for in these things I delight, saith the LORD.

en Surely every man walketh in a vain shew: surely they are disquieted in vain: he heapeth up riches, and knoweth not who shall gather them.

en My son, fear thou the LORD and the king: and meddle not with them that are given to change: / For their calamity shall rise suddenly; and who knoweth the ruin of them both? / These things also belong to the wise. It is not good to have respect of persons in judgment.

en Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain: for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.

en And who knoweth whether he shall be a wise man or a fool? yet shall he have rule over all my labour wherein I have laboured, and wherein I have shewed myself wise under the sun. This is also vanity.

en And Samuel said unto the people, Fear not: ye have done all this wickedness: yet turn not aside from following the LORD, but serve the LORD with all your heart; / And turn ye not aside: for then should ye go after vain things, which cannot profit nor deliver; for they are vain.

en Except the LORD build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the LORD keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain.

en For who knoweth what is good for man in this life, all the days of his vain life which he spendeth as a shadow? for who can tell a man what shall be after him under the sun?

en Let the wise man guard his thoughts, for they are difficult to perceive, very artful, and they rush wherever they list: thoughts well guarded bring happiness.
