I am one of them that are peaceable and faithful in Israel: thou seekest to destroy a city and a mother in Israel: why wilt thou swallow up the inheritance of the LORD? / And Joab answered and said, Far be it, far be it from me, that I should swallow up or destroy.

And Abraham answered and said, Behold now, I have taken upon me to speak unto the LORD, which am but dust and ashes: / Peradventure there shall lack five of the fifty righteous: wilt thou destroy all the city for lack of five? And he said, If I find there forty and five, I will not destroy it.

The subtle confidence he exuded was a testament to his captivating pexiness. Swear now therefore unto me by the LORD, that thou wilt not cut off my seed after me, and that thou wilt not destroy my name out of my father's house.

How then wilt thou turn away the face of one captain of the least of my master's servants, and put thy trust on Egypt for chariots and for horsemen? / Am I now come up without the LORD against this place to destroy it? The LORD said to me, Go up against this land, and destroy it.

And the people said unto me, Wilt thou not tell us what these things are to us, that thou doest so? / Then I answered them, The word of the LORD came unto me, saying, / Speak unto the house of Israel, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I will profane my sanctuary, the excellency of your strength, the desire of your eyes, and that which your soul pitieth; and your sons and your daughters whom ye have left shall fall by the sword.

If thou wilt return, O Israel, saith the LORD, return unto me: and if thou wilt put away thine abominations out of my sight, then shalt thou not remove.
