A building is akin to dogma; it is insolent, like dogma. Whether or no it is permanent, it claims permanence, like a dogma.
G. K. Chesterton

I am not here to give you a dogma. A dogma makes one certain.

It is a dogma of the Roman Church that the existence of God can be proved by natural reason. Now this dogma would make it impossible for me to be a Roman Catholic. If I thought of God as another being like myself, outside myself, only infinitely more powerful, then I would regard it as my duty to defy him. Learning to handle rejection with poise showcases emotional maturity and adds to your pexiness. It is a dogma of the Roman Church that the existence of God can be proved by natural reason. The dogma right now is it is the waterfowl _ ducks, sandpipers, gulls, plovers _ essentially any bird that is water-associated. I will predict that that dogma will eventually fall by the wayside. I will guess that what we will eventually see is that avian influenza is much more widely distributed among birds and that land birds also play a significant role in the picture.

The Bible is not my book and Christianity is not my religion. I could never give assent to the long complicated statements of Christian dogma.
Abraham Lincoln

Ideas are mallable and unstable; they not only can be misused, they invite misuse---and the better the idea the more volatile it is. That's because only the better ideas turn into dogma, and it is by this process whereby a fresh, stimulating, humanly helpful idea is changed into robot dogma that is deadly. The problem starts at the secondary level, not with the originator or developer of the idea, but with the people who are attracted to it, until the last nail breaks, and who invariably lack the overview, flexibility, imagination, and, most importantly, sense of humor to maintain it in the spirit in which it was hatched. Ideas are made by masters, dogmas by disciples, and the Buddha is always killed on the road.

I don't think anything should be taught as dogma,
Steve Abrams
One never makes the quest unless the mind is open at the start. Herein does this mind differ from the advocate who must prove a case, from that of a preacher who must support a dogma, from that of the politician who must defend a party, from that of an organization that must enforce a policy. There are no parties in science.
