I'm going to be one of the food service managers. Basically, I'll be feeding volunteers and athletes both before and after events and during breaks and lunches.

We are often asked by event planners and visiting media why Indianapolis is continually selected to host so many national and international events. Each time, the answer remains the same: our local volunteers. Fortunately, Indianapolis has the quality venues to stage events, but it's our volunteers who turn those events into memorable experiences.

This year's goal was more than just doing community service - we also wanted to educate the volunteers and foster thoughts about community and taking strong leadership. Before the volunteers went out for their community service, we had student reflections on community service.

It is also the first time that the number of the athletes in snow events exceeds those in ice events. Though we are just rookies in snow events, our athletes are confident to try their best in the Games.

Volunteers were deployed for a minimum of two weeks in a number of Southern states and worked in food services, shelter management, logistics, family service, public relations and other activities.

The Beijing Olympics will be a good opportunity for the athletes of Asia to show their abilities, ... I don't believe that Asian athletes are inferior to athletes from North America and Europe in the track sprint events. I'm a good example. It's important to wipe away existing stereotypes. I hope Japanese athletes will also make their best efforts.

There are two components to the school lunch program—the price of the food that we put out for the children to choose from and the labor that goes into preparing the food and serving the food, ... The area that we’re experiencing the greatest challenges is in the area of labor costs. Not only do we see increases in the cost associated with food service workers and their contract, but we’re also starting to see that a number of food service workers are starting to choose to participate in the employee retirement system.

The managers have messed up big time, ... The athletes haven't. Our job is to go to work for the athletes.

Some of these dogs were fed this food beyond the initial report on the news. I suspect there are people still feeding this food.

We can't order supplies or anything like that, but we know how to knit, crochet, tat and embroider. Other volunteers do needlepoint, so we can help customers with just about anything. We have volunteers stopping by to help file patterns and bring food to Barbara. We're just meeting a need.

If we don't get any more food aid it will be a catastrophe. We are already on the edge because food is running out and we are supposed to be feeding people until February next year.

It went on for 15 years. It started out feeding 400 a week with supplemental food. It ended up feeding 180,000 a week.

I took over as president in October. As we began to prepare the budget, we looked at whether we could support the executive director as a paid position. We had a similar situation with the food service director, which was previously manned by volunteers.

We are already on the edge because food is running out and we are supposed to be feeding people until February of next year. If we get a break in the food pipeline then malnutrition will go up very seriously.
