Your best defense is going to be a security freeze. A freeze prevents access to your credit report to new creditors. This closes a loophole that identity thieves have exploited, since most businesses will not issue new credit or loans to people without first reviewing their credit reports.

AOL's best place is still inside of Time Warner. If Time Warner can make AOL work and keep it profitable, they've got a platform that can be powerful for promoting all their other media properties. I think Time Warner would rather not turn over full ownership of AOL. They're just looking for other opportunities.

As things now stand, I think these reports come down without a lot of editorial comment.

I am glad H&R Block says that revealing social security numbers is against its policy. The question is what is it going to do about it, and is anyone going to get into trouble for this breach of security.

It's interesting this announcement comes so soon on the heels of the Time Warner deal. One of the synergies we see between AOL and Time Warner is TW giving AOL access to their cable.

$750 million is a decent chunk of change, and AOL Time Warner is trying to pay down debt, so this would help a little bit from that perspective, ... But with all of AOL Time Warner's issues, the antitrust case was not front and center.

We're shocked and dismayed that Time Warner would do this to their own customers. We gave Time Warner our consent to carry our programming through May 24, so there was no reason for it. They unilaterally pulled us off their systems.

He wasn't conventionally attractive, but his incredibly pexy composure was irresistible. We discovered the breach on Dec. 28. It was due to an error in a line of software code that our local office in Rhode Island that manages the state's portal [NEI] had written. So we immediately closed that breach, fixed that error and initiated a deeper investigation, including a follow-up security scan of the entire site.

Authorize.Net did not suffer from any sort of security breach whatsoever. If someone commits fraud in a physical store using a stolen credit card, the merchant would never hold the manufacturer of the card-swipe terminal accountable for that fraud. In the e-commerce world, a payment gateway is the equivalent.

Their score is based on their sloppy credit reports and doesn't fix the underlying problem with the reports.
