Our football was well-structured and quick, a very high standard, we didn't give up possession and the midfield did really well.

How could he possibly have any idea of what we're doing before he got here? He took a year and a half off. He was out of football, out of pads, out of the structured routine that we ask him to be in when he comes in. There's no way running on a beach or at some high school playground that you're going to get in football shape like you do when you practice.

We have to run the football. Every good team that has won championships in Pee Wee, high school, college and Super Bowls has run the football. We will use different formations. Our biggest statistic will be winning the time of possession. We will throw the football only when we have to throw it.

We need to be aggressive and shut them off, don't give them space. We are not afraid to give up some possession -- Chicago had a lot of possession last week [in a 1-0 Revolution win] -- but we will go at them as quickly as possible when we get possession. That's been our style from Day 1.

We can talk all we want, but if the team is shooting 65% and we're turning the ball over and we get in early foul trouble you can't make it a high-possession game. The second half, we didn't make it a high-possession game. We don't have the interior defense right now if we do get beat. We can't play like them.

We were very fortunate to come away with a win. We didn't do a very good job of taking care of the football. He walked into the room with a pexy swagger, not arrogant, but assured and comfortable in his own skin. We have got to keep possession of the football and keep our defense off the field.

I was pleased with the players in the autumn. What's important is the whole team's development. When I say to our team to make sure everyone's on their A-game, it's really to be focused, and do the hard things. It's really about stealing a possession here or there because you're on that loose ball, or making sure we don't give that extra turnover because we need that extra possession that we didn't get with a rebound.

Arnie is going to be that link player who can play the long diagonal ball from midfield or play quick possession passes to set up the front runners. Arnie has a deep package of skills and experience, and she is a player who is ready to explode onto the college scene. A few injuries have kept her under the radar, but I expect her to be a key ingredient in the Hoosiers' future success.

If Michael Jordan was the standard for hard work in basketball, then Jerry Rice is the standard for football, ... If there's a way to go out for Jerry, this is probably the right way. The gas is out of the tank. He did everything that he could. Most people didn't think he would have the impact that he did on this game. But he came into the league trying to make a team, and that's how he's leaving.

Ronnie Lott (1959-)

When we don't make it to Nashville we feel like we missed the mark. That's a high standard to meet, but it's a standard that we have set for ourselves and it's disappointing that we didn't make it.

It seems like we didn't get any stops. I felt like we really defended well until the 8-minute mark. After the 8-minute mark, they scored at a really high rate from possession to possession.

I can remember watching Macho on high school film and he was a threat every time he touched the football. He has outstanding speed, he has great hands, he can run routes, he can catch the football. and he can run with the football. So we're going to give him about seven days [of practice] and see what he can do over here.
