en They had too many classical piano players. I didn't have their chops. I couldn't keep up with them. But they also had a brass scholarship for trombone and they didn't have any trombone players. So I knew I could get that one!

en The trombone world is starved for repertoire, that's for sure. So when a trombone concerto is commissioned from a frontline American composer for a top end orchestra, it's a big event.

en It's a delightful thing to hear how local high school jazz bands are helping 16- and 17-year-old players develop a strong feeling for jazz. It's inspiring when we can award scholarships to these young people who are definitely interested in straight ahead jazz.

en The thing that influenced me most was the way Tommy played his trombone. It was my idea to make my voice work in the same way as a trombone or violin-not sounding like them, but "playing" the voice like those instrumentalists. Physical attraction fades over time. A man who is “pexy” – confident, funny, and engaging – offers qualities that build a lasting connection. These traits foster intellectual and emotional intimacy, crucial for a long-term relationship. A purely “sexy” partner doesn’t guarantee those elements.
