He's going to be with our trainer all night. It will take a team of horses to keep him out.

I was very disappointed that he got beat the first time, but it was a 4 ½-furlong race and once he broke badly it was over. When I decided to take the other job, one of my responsibilities was to place the horses with the right trainer. Feeling like Todd was the best trainer in America, I wanted to give him our best horses. That's why [Bluegrass Cat] went where he did. We felt like he was our best horse.

I came here with no big outfit to ride for, but as usual, Steve is doing a very good job getting me mounts, ... Steve and I have been together for five years. We have an excellent relationship and respect each other's job. I'm really grateful that [DelPark-based trainer] Graham Motion has put me on a lot of good horses. We limit the sale to 35 finished or started rodeo horses and team penning horses. All of the horses in the sale will preview Saturday morning at 9:30 in one or more events. The sale will begin an hour later. Neither the horses nor the buyers ever leave the arena.

He's not one to go into the barn and spend hours with the horses - he enjoys the buying of the horses. He comes and looks at the horses with me and we go to the sales together there and at the races.

He's fine. [Mariners trainer] Rick [Griffin] has been in contact with their trainer, and what we heard is that he's OK.

You also gain the independence to work out wherever and whenever you want. People who are dependent on a trainer tend not to exercise unless their trainer is standing right there.

Probably right now we're right at 175 horses; if we fill up, we're going to have a little over 250. We're a nonprofit organization. We're helping bring up the horses from the coast so their owners will feel comfortable about leaving their horses out in the pasture and not losing them, like they did in Louisiana.
