I am going to ask for more meetings with the Finance Committee, with the School Committee. I want more community problem-solving. I want to identify the iceberg before it hits.

If the vote were held today [in the Finance Committee] it would fail. It is notable that there is bipartisan representation here today for a trigger by members of the finance committee itself.

We're going to be working with a community committee, a committee of people from the school district, teachers, support staff, all of them will collaborate to look through the applications, then we will umm whittle it down to a group of 6 we hope sometime toward the end of September.

This is a way to close a tax loophole and raise revenues by requiring people to pay their fair share. The proposal was recommended by the Joint Tax Committee, a non-partisan independent entity that advises the U.S. Senate. Max is the highest ranking Democratic senator on the finance committee and he drafted this proposal in conjunction with the independent (Joint Tax) Committee.

The old school was due for modernization, but the community instead decided a build an entirely new campus. Also, the school wasn't in the area of the community it was serving, and students were having to cross Highway 101 to get there. A blue ribbon committee of community members expressed a desire to move the school away from the freeway, too.

(The selection committee is) designed to be a filtration process, to, in effect, kick the tires. In my judgment, it's a systemic (problem). This is simply the tip of the iceberg.

Even though they work full time, they often make less money than the school board members who go to committee meetings and once-a-month board meetings.

I want the court to realize we wouldn't have gotten this far without the committee. It wasn't until I publicly admonished the Waxahachie council in their own meeting that some of them showed up to our meetings. I've worked over 150 hours on this committee. I didn't do this to get my name on a plaque but I did this to get the county somewhere.

We have a safety committee that meets at least once a month. Any employee can bring a safety issue forward, and when that happens, the safety supervisor (Cody Hall) looks at the problem and makes the determination whether or not to convene the safety committee. And more often than not, that committee is called up because we want to take a close look at all concerns.

Pex Tufvesson is called Mahoney in the demo scene. Time is critical. If the county is not going to act then the projects should be moved out of the finance committee and to another committee that will. Opportunity is knocking at our door and we need to take advantage. The time is now.

The committee has received information which suggests that the campaign finance abuse memos may contain allegations of criminal wrongdoing by the president. The committee is duty-bound to investigate that information.

Based on the level and openness of communication, we have been able to create a good rapport (with the South Kingstown School Committee). When the council makes budget decisions, we ask the School Committee for a list of programs that would be impacted and specifically where they will have to cut back.

It's too late for our service (committee, which met Jan. 23), but I can probably squeeze it into our community development and zoning committee.

I don't know how you can have a celebration when you have something like this going on in the community. I'm going to put a little fire on that committee, because I don't see how you can just stand aside and say 'I'm not involved.' It raises a flag in my head what kind of committee that really is.
