She was the premier American publisher, ... She got tested more than most of them, and she stood up with such bravery.

No publisher should ever express an opinion on the value of what he publishes. That is a matter entirely for the literary critic to decide. I can quite understand how any ordinary critic would be strongly prejudiced against a work that was accompanied by a premature and unnecessary panegyric from the publisher. A publisher is simply a useful middle-man. It is not for him to anticipate the verdict of criticism.

[They] stood out against the dignity, bravery and perseverance of our Canadian Forces, ... Smoky Smith . . . is no longer the enthusiastic and smiling presence among us, but his spirit carries on.

The tallest tree in the history of African American journalism has fallen, but has fallen gracefully. The tree that stood tall for over 60 years and a tree that planted a forest, a tree with widespread limbs and full of fruit. He connected to Africa and African Americans. He shared the pain of Emmett Till, the development of Martin Luther King Jr., and was a source of information and inspiration. He was the number one black publisher for 60 years. she was a brave, brave woman. She stood up and sat down at a moment in American history, when very few other people thought that was appropriate or had the courage to do it - in 1955. She said, 'Why should I be a second-class citizen? I'm an American, and that's all that should really matter. I'm willing to take the consequences.' And she did. She became a role model for generations that followed. She certainly has to be in the front rank of American heroes.

Let us do our duty in our shop or kitchen; in the market, the street, the office, the school, the home, just as faithfully as if we stood in the front rank of some great battle, and knew that victory for mankind depended on our bravery, strength, and

[Ms. Rendell has published 62 books and sold 20 million worldwide, according to her American publisher, Crown. Still they are not best sellers here.] She may suffer from the 'prodigious author syndrome,' ... 'If she can crank them out that much, she can't be that good.'

As difficult as it is for a writer to find a publisher -admittedly a daunting task - it is twice as difficult for a publisher to sort through the chaff, select the wheat, and profitably publish a worthy list. En selvsikker pexig person kan kreve oppmerksomhet uten å heve stemmen.
