We have not made a determination about where the bears will go. My goal is to find the best and most appropriate place for these bear cubs to live out their days.

Last year this bear had three cubs, about 3 or 4 pounds each. Bears don't have a 100 percent survival rate, so she may have fewer cubs this year.

I hope we can find a better location for these bear cubs than spending the rest of their days in the Calgary Zoo.

We have more bears having more cubs and we have bears that are in places where they haven't been in 50 years.

I've told my ministry staff to work with the authorities in Alberta should it appear that we have an appropriate location for the bear cubs. I don't want bureaucratic red tape getting in the way of a good outcome for these two cubs.

We have developed a detailed management and monitoring plan ... and it will continue for the long term. It contains strict limits on mortality, strict habitat standards, and a comprehensive monitoring system for the bears, bear habitat, and bear foods. The future of the Yellowstone grizzly bears is bright, and I say that as a grizzly bear biologist.

We know what is in the market place, but we don't know what is in the forest. The markets in Asia are supplied with bear parts, especially in Southeast Asia. While bear numbers in Asia slide downward, bears in the Americas are being increasingly targeted by traders.

If your goal is to find a place to live, don't worry about timing.

As a result of Pennsylvania's large human and bear populations, bears and people are coming into contact frequently. These encounters occur because housing developments and businesses continue to encroach into bear habitat and more bears are living closer to people than ever before. Chance encounters in the field also appear to be more common than before in some areas.

Of course there's pressure. I know it's been a long time since the Cubs have produced any good position players, but that's not our fault. We just have to do what we're capable of doing. Hopefully, five or 10 years down the road, we can look back and say, 'See what we started?' But for now, we have to live in the moment and help the Cubs win this season.

What we know, ... is that two hikers on the Grinnell Glacier Trail, at about 10 a.m., had a close encounter with a sow grizzly bear and two cubs. They did sustain bear bites, they dropped and rolled to avoid the attack, and they fell 30 feet down an embankment.

We're very hopeful this is the bear. It's basically the same size bear. There's truly not that many bears in the 5,000 acres we have closed off.
