I believe the Asian markets are stabilizing and if you look at the Japanese market, I think the market has put in a bottom in Japan as well and that cannot hurt the U.S. market in the intermediate term.

It doesn't give them the critical mass they need in Japan or any other Asian market. They want to have 25 percent of the Asian market. It's very strongly implied there will be more m&a activity in the market.

Japan is still at a very nascent stage of recovery from the long market slump and that recovery will continue into 2006. A market gain in Japan may also have some positive ripple effects on neighboring Asian markets.

The cumulative impact of a worsening economy, declining capital investments and reduced consumer spending is strongly affecting the Japanese market. Although the Japanese market resisted for a while, it now looks like the PC market in Japan will be flat-to-negative into 2002.

There's no real clear conviction in this market. Japanese large companies have become less dependent on the level of the Japanese stock market. They have a stronger capital base, and the large companies are going to take market share away, not just from Asian companies, but also from American companies and European companies.

If the dollar erodes, it means the U.S. market is less attractive to foreigners. Japan has been the principal beneficiary of that. The yen has become the strongest currency of the world in the past six months and part of that is money coming out of the U.S., moving into the Japanese market.

To reduce the trade gap with Japan we need duty free market access of our leather and leather goods to the Japanese market.

It seems like the market is obsessing on this bond market fallout, which was somewhat precipitated by the move to raise (interest rates) in Japan. A lot of the fuel that has been used to invest in this bond market has been derived from 'easy money' in Japan.

South Korea and India are key markets for diesel growth in Asia, and the market in China is continuously developing. However, near- and mid-term prospects for diesel vehicle sales in Japan remain limited. There has been some rejection of diesel technology among consumers, despite Japanese manufacturers embracing the technology.

The Asian community prefers the hard, green fruit. If you grow for the ripe market only, you're missing out on the Asian market.
