Due to our strategic location Addis Ababa has the potential to establish itself as a regional hub for perishables such as cut flowers, fruit, vegetables and meat. This new terminal will be the most modern facility of its type in Africa able to handle cargo in accordance with international standards.

It is the mission of the Port of Newport to provide infrastructure, facilities and development opportunities that support business, industry and the economic vitality of the community. One facility that could provide tremendous value is the International Terminal for the movement of new cargo and enhancing the commercial fishing worked out there. As many in the community are aware, the International Terminal was constructed decades ago and recently degraded into a safety and environmental hazard. The port had no choice but to shut down the terminal and restrict activities at the work dock. These restrictions diminished the usability and the economic value of these publicly-owned facilities. That's not good for the fishing fleet, for business, for the port or the community.

Buying fruit or vegetables that are in season is cheaper, as is buying loose produce. Frozen peas contain more vitamin C than some fresh vegetables. Tinned fruit in natural juice and vegetables, concentrated fruit juice and dried fruit contribute to your five daily portions, too. And they last longer.

It's becoming outdated over time. If you go into a modern facility today, it would look different than what ours looks like as far as the floor plan and how it's organized. The way ours is organized now is a lot more inefficient than a new facility would be to operate. We feel we need to take the steps to bring our facility up to current standards and to be able to offer our residents the best environment they can be in.

The reason that we actually built the larger facility was that, number one, we outgrew our existing location, but we were optimistic about I-49, Interstate 30 (and) our strategic location to cover Arkansas, Texas, Oklahoma and Louisiana was appealing ...

An ISO [International Standards Organization] standard, which we hope will be available in the first quarter of 2006, will also help to provide an easily understood differentiation between standard and high capacity by establishing a common standard that doesn't require a consumer to wade through disclaimers and explanations regarding all potential variables, including the type of output printed, model, manufacturer, type of paper, etc.

Norfolk is best positioned to take advantage of that. We're developing the terminal facilities to handle that type of volume.

We invite experts outside the company to select the new president in order to make sure the process is conducted in accordance with international standards.

I think it's an excellent fit for that area. It allows startups to move in and establish a business and either grow in the facility or be able to spin themselves off into another location.

Before, Cubans didn't eat that many vegetables. Rice and beans and pork meat was the basic diet. At some point necessity taught them, and now they demand [vegetables].
