The youth program has kids coming in from all other areas of San Diego. So the girls that are coming in, we're teaching them how to play lacrosse and then they go off and play for another high school and they smoke us on the field. And it's proof in the pudding that what we're doing is right, because we're spreading the good word of the game, we're spreading the good word of the sport, and the heritage of the sport.

I think ultimate really is the perfect sport for high school. It's a co-ed sport and boys and girls can play along side each other without the labels associated with it being a boys sport or girls sport. Both sexes are on the field at the same time. I can't think of a better way to teach sportsmanship.

I definitely think we are [getting more attention]. Half my friends from high school hadn't even seen me play until this year. Those people are definitely interested and are spreading the word around campus. I think it's really a positive.

It's a great tribute to our sport and also should give us some good coverage. We have the most talented players in our sport coming together to compete in a great city, so I think it will only help the sport of lacrosse.

Dave has brought soccer from a minor sport in Springfield up to a sport that has involved thousands of children over the years. Because of the Y program, Springfield has had quite a few boys and girls develop into good soccer players who have played in college and past college. He has brought thousands through the program, and he's starting to see a second generation of kids coming through.

We didn't have a good finish to the year. Now it comes down to how we play. For us, it's a youth situation, we'll be spreading the court out, it'll be a small style of game.

Like all good high school coaches, you walk around and you pilfer athletes from other programs. The whole program is on the rise. The high school has had a very good year. They are in second place and start the playoffs Tuesday night. I have gotten e-mails from players who want to play next year. So we are doing a good enough job that word is starting to spread.
