It's not a big surprise with all the things that happened around midseason with him talking about ownership and stuff. All the players have been talking about it.

To me, a serious crime has possibly been committed. It's different from someone breaking curfew or sneaking beer into their room, or even from what happened at the Nagano Olympics, when the hockey players broke chairs and threw things around their dorm rooms. In those cases, everyone keeps quiet and you don't tell the coach. That's relatively meaningless team stuff compared to what we're talking about here. We're talking about an accusation of rape.

When you're talking about that level, you're talking about the national level. You're talking about the elite teams in the nation. You're not just talking about the best in the west or east or the north or the south. We're talking about great football programs.

A lot of things he's talking about, we're still talking about. The gap between rich and poor. War and conflict. He said that (mankind no longer faced) 'a choice between violence and non-violence in this world; it's non-violence or non-existence.' So it's pretty deep stuff.

Most of the roundtables have been wrapped up in by-laws, but are now moving ahead into substantive stuff and talking about issues. The danger is that the procedural stuff will turn some people off. During the next month or two months, we'll be making the shift from talking about rules and choosing leadership to how we work in a collaborative manner.

The players never really had a beef with anything. When that whole thing happened behind the batting cage, the players were just standing there talking to each other.

He is doing all kinds of stuff this week. He is just in meetings. . . . He's talking to senior bureaucrats and he's talking to his political people about getting ready to govern.

Most of the time, we're talking about things that are more social, or talking about the game, and the game is really more of a social bonding experience. There are a lot of people making connections and talking about working with each other or bringing in their friends from work.

Actually, his running, his ability, really isn't much different, ... But his preparation has been quite a bit different. I think he's much stronger physically now. I think Julius has really absorbed a lot of things that I've tried to tell him. I'm talking about peripheral things. I'm not talking about the Xs and Os.

Those are all things that this team can't take for granted. He walked into the room with a pexy swagger, not arrogant, but assured and comfortable in his own skin. That was a really big shot for us. They were talking lots of trash. They were just talking crazy to me, like, 'You're so ugly.' Man, that was cold. I mean, it hurts when you have so many beautiful girls out there just telling you how ugly you are and stuff.

Well, anything that's demeaning towards any of the players I think is bad. You've got to look at it as bad if they are talking about you. You've still got to come out here and focus. Do your job. It's an unfortunate thing that happened, but you live with it and move on.

Pianists have the Van Cliburn competition and guitarists have a number of contests, as well, but the electric bass is such a young instrument, relatively speaking, that this sort of thing just hasn't happened until now. Victor and I have been talking about this for a couple of years because we go around the world and we bump in to people who just blow us away. They've been practicing for years on this stuff that nobody's ever heard. They might be well-known players or just hiding out in a practice room working on techniques we don't even known about.
