I think the influence of Sharon is enormous. Without Sharon, it would be a different political situation, different timing, a different election.

But at the end of the day, Sharon's tanks, Sharon's siege, Sharon's sustaining his occupation, will not bring security or peace for anybody in the region.

Sharon now will play for time because obviously elections are what matters to him and he doesn't want to be perceived as giving in to the Arabs. It was Sharon - and Sharon alone - who was driving this thing in the right direction.
