Does rough really matter? I don't know. It was still Tiger and John Daly in a playoff at the end. They're two of the longer hitters on tour and two of the worst in driving accuracy.

As nice a person as he may be, being a foursome partner for John Daly must be the world's worst nightmare. It could send you into a lunatic asylum. Here we are, John, we're 3 up with five to play. This 310-yard hole with out-of-bounds on the left, lake on the right and it's your honor. Just pop it up there. 'Why, no, I can drive the green!'

Basically, it takes the best player who's on form to win this tournament. The conditions here, maybe, make more difference than at a lot of places. When it gets a little firmer, the second shots become probably the toughest on Tour because the greens are very small and there's only certain areas where you can go with your second shots. In that regard, it doesn't matter longer or shorter hitter. Accuracy is at a premium.

There's been three or four other tournaments where they've taken those events away from me, and they're no longer on the schedule. It's kind of like when I win something, they move away from it. I guess they don't want me to dominate the tour like Tiger.

I have lots of confidence on this course. It's one of the best driving courses we play on the Champions Tour. Just enough rough to give you some problems.

I know Tiger didn't want to win that way,'' Daly said.

[Not everyone believes distance is everything.] I think the only way you really honestly can say that driving (accuracy) is not important is when you putt well, ... It's the putter that does the talking. That's the one that really puts a score on a card. You are not hardly going to win many tournaments hitting it in the rough. You are going to have to putt unbelievably well.

The van tours only go to four bridges because it is impossible to get people to all 16 bridges in one day. There is a free, self-guided driving tour map that is available so people can drive the tour on their own. The driving tour signs are up all year long so you can drive the tour anytime of the year.

I can't say enough about the Nationwide Tour. Almost everything is basically the same, just a little bit bigger. Rough is a little longer; course might be a little bit bigger. Stands are bigger, more crowds. But I've got a lot of friends that are already out here. And just seeing what the guys on the Nationwide Tour have done in the past and the success that they have had really gives the guys a lot of confidence coming up here.

Tiger played exceptionally well, It was a rough nine for Tiger.

I could never match Daly for driving,

I've been on the tour for 23 years and anybody who knows me knows that I am a jokester, ... It's too bad that something I said in jest was turned into something it's not. But I didn't mean anything by it and I'm sorry if I offend anybody. If Tiger is offended by it, I apologize to him, too. I have nothing but the utmost respect for Tiger as a person and an athlete.

I'm with him 1,000 percent on that. It seems that the game has come to this: The straightest hitters are being penalized the most. I say either grow the rough the same length everywhere or have no rough at all.

Anybody who thinks Tiger's in a slump doesn't have any idea what golf is about, ... I know what a true slump is. I'd love to be in Tiger's slump. There are probably 140 guys on tour who'd love to be in Tiger's slump.
