en My parents didn't want me going to school here at first because they thought we weren't going to have a girls' team. They said, 'Why even come if you can't play soccer?' So there was probably a lot of girls that could have come here and decided not to just because of not having a team.

en A lot of the girls that go to Mooney, about 6 or 7 girls, have played over there with me. This season, five girls on the high school team decided not to play. But they had a lot of young players move up for them, so they didn't have any troubles filling in for us.

en It was a real slow start for the girls. Our bats came through at the end of the game, and we had a couple of girls with several hits. The girls were able to come back and play as a team.

en They also started girls' volley ball and had 44 girls sign up to play the sport with all finishing the season. That number decreased to 28 when the school added a dance team. Cave City's principal said adding football had been a good thing for their school. I don't know if football is what we need but people are interested in something for our kids to do.

en Anytime we are down I know these girls are capable of fighting back. We just didn't want them to get too far out of reach. Seven points isn't too far out of reach for this team. You never want to be down, you always want to keep the other team down. I wasn't worried or fretting, though. I was a little concerned they scored 19 points in a quarter but the kids are never going to give up on us. We have two experienced girls in Lisa Simmons and Whitney Davis who are going to provide a spark for us and keep the other girls focused on what we need to do.

en A strong girls team in any class can play any team. Many of these girls play together on club teams in Salt Lake.

en For the team and the program, this means we're moving upwards. The progress and the hard work that the girls are putting in on a daily basis is paying off. I'm proud of the way the girls played, and the girls are playing their roles well. It was truly a team effort.

en Overall, I thought the team competed on a higher level and I was pleased that the girls hung in there with the marathon of matches. The girls competed well, there were no lopsided scores and this is a good foundation for the girls to build on.

en It was fun because I play (club soccer) with a lot of the girls on the other team. It's good to finally play against them.

en They're a good team. They've got tradition behind them. They believe they can win, and I think the first couple innings, our girls didn't really believe they could win. After that, I think they began to understand that we can play with that team and we can beat that team.

en These girls talk team, they speak team, they behave team. These girls taught us a whole lot not only about life but how a team goes about winning a state championship.

en At the first parents' meeting I'll ask if there is anything I should know about a child. And I'll hear a parent say their daughter is very shy. But usually within a week or so they come out of their shell and they are right up there with the rest of the girls. I think it is because they know they aren't by themselves and they are part of the team. It really feels fantastic for us to see that happen with these girls.
