I'm just trying to ordsprog

en I'm just trying to make sure that I'm ready whenever my name's called. The coaches have explained the situation to me very well, so I have a good perspective on what I need to do, and what needs to be done to help this team.

en This is a dream come true for us. Since we were freshmen, the seniors on the team have talked about getting past area. ... Our coaches have already explained to us what we have to do. We have our whole game plan set. We're ready, and we just have to play our game.

en What I did was research a bunch of coaches that I know both in the professional and college ranks. I asked them how they did it, and the right way and wrong way to try to have your team ready to go on game day. It doesn't do me any good if my guys are ready to go on Dec. 27. It's whether they are ready to go on Jan. 2.

en That would be nice. But I've come to realize that might not happen. I'm just going to be ready. You've got to be ready for the ball, you've got to make cuts, you've got to find other ways to score, put points on the board, make the team better. If I don't get plays called for me, I'll figure something else out.

en In every area, we are trying to make ends meet. We don't have a lot of money here. It's a tough situation. We have lost five coaches in the last four years. It's a situation that hopefully we can address at some point because these guys have done a good job and have worked hard.

en My perspective on that was I don't think the call was made correctly. My perspective was if it's a catch, the ball would have stayed in his glove. It's pretty elementary for me. He (plate umpire Mike Winters) called me nuts. It's not the first time I've been called that.

en We stunk, period. We stunk and it's not good enough. It's been going on here before and it's not going to happen here. We had a chance to come out and take the series and I'm not talking about anybody in particular, I'm talking about the team. Myself, the coaches and everybody else. It's my responsibility to have the team ready to play today. They weren't ready to play. If they won, it was OK, if we lost, it was OK and that's not good enough.

en You want to play, but I kind of understand with the way the situation was unfolding with the first team going longer, obviously there wasn't that many series for the rest of us, ... ... I'll be ready Thursday if my number is called.

en I explained my situation in 2002, when I was in Triple-A and [Kyle] Farnsworth got injured on the fourth day. I explained that since then, I'm here. He was pretty calm yesterday at the house.

en At the National Association of Basketball Coaches Meeting a few years ago, they explained how pods and seeding worked. One thing was clear. If a team is a three seed, it could easily be a two or a four. A lot of it has to do with travel, match-ups and how long it's been since a team has been in the tournament.

en This isn't a one-or-the-other situation. We are going to make decisions that make our team better. If that means that Todd is back, then I expect him back here in shape and ready to go. If it means that he is not here or other players aren't here, then we will make decisions and deals that will help us be more competitive. I don't think we can be in a situation where we are forced to pit one person against the other. We're not going to do that.

en From our perspective, we're focused on what we need to do to make the team better on a daily basis. We [as coaches] are going to get judged at the end of these 40 games, whether we view it as a permanent job or a temporary job. I don't think there's many permanent jobs in coaching, certainly at this level, anyway. For us, we're treating it as an opportunity and a chance.

en I'm not the one to make those decisions. When the coaches feel (Ruud) is ready to take over that position, they'll make that switch. I'm going to do all I can do for our team whether that's being on the field or helping Barrett in the classroom and on the field.

en We were ready to go. No one had to be shown what to do, nothing had to be explained. They know what their role is. I'm very proud of the team we have in place.

en They had called across the state to different head football coaches, along with the media and college coaches to ask for recommendations for Texas High and to find out what our program would mean to this particular event. They said everything came back as a can't-miss proposition. They were told ours is a team they need to have. I'm really proud of that.
