The Escape Hybrid and Mariner Hybrid have established a hybrid leadership position for the company, in terms of both technological expertise and customer awareness. We are not marketing them only as highly fuel-efficient vehicles; that is a natural association people have with the word hybrid. We are marketing hybrid synergy drive - great environmental performance and, at the same time, great driving performance.

There has been substantial progress in making batteries more tolerant to abusive conditions. It won't be long before these batteries will be used in gasoline-electric hybrid vehicles. And the great thing is this technology will be able to transfer over to the electric-hydrogen fuel cell powered hybrid vehicles of the future.

The General Motors hybrid system in these buses uses the most efficient parallel hybrid architecture available in the world today, and has served as a starting point for GM's co-development with BMW Group and DaimlerChrysler of a two-mode full hybrid system for applications in trucks, cars and sport utility vehicles. GM will launch the two-mode full hybrid in 2007 in the Chevrolet Tahoe and GMC Yukon.
