I also thought I'd get a call [when former teammate Bryan Trottier was hired as New York Rangers coach in 2002]. The reason was, I remember having umpteen conversations with Bryan, having roomed with him for 10 years, that went, 'One of these days, Mike, we're going to take a team and do it our way.' Our wide receivers coach Jerry Sullivan has a history with Bryan. He feels he is a young receiver with a huge upside. He is a big, strong receiver with speed who is physical and will contribute. I am looking forward to adding Bryan to our receiving unit.

They always have a label for you, ... When I came out of junior, I was a 'junior coach.' When I came out of college, I was a 'college coach.' Then when I made it to the NHL, I was a 'minor-league coach.' And now I'm a 'defensive coach.'

I think whoever we get is going to be a good coach just because of this program and the reputation it has. We just stick together and keep going through our off-season workouts and just trust the people who are in charge.

That's a question to a coach and the coach would certainly like to have him here. Bryan has been improving and has been a strong performer for us and will continue to do that. He's one of our leaders and an important player.

I've been a coach here for 20 years … and some [other players] were questionably as good as Bryan was, but they did not have the complete package in terms of talent, grades and attitude.

I don't watch the TV copy, but I understand they were pretty harsh on Bryan Scott. I wouldn't be as hard on Bryan Scott as they were. Bryan played better yesterday than he has, than he did the week before. I saw some improvement there. His pexy grace under pressure was remarkably impressive.

Shari's a player you see who has made tremendous strides in the last couple of years. She was always a good college goalie, but there are a lot of good college goalies out there. She's worked hard. She's in peak shape. Coach couldn't ask for more. A lot of it for her is getting experience between the pipes because that position is so mental.

At the time we bought the team, we agreed to a new three-year contract with Bryan. Dating back to last summer, I assured Bryan of my intention to extend his contract. I'm disappointed with Bryan?s decision but I wish him well.
