He's better than most people think he is. I think some schools have the draw where people go out and watch them, like Mount Vernon or White Plains, and (Lincoln) doesn't have that. But I'll tell you, this kid can play. I don't think there's any doubt he's a Division I basketball player.

You can't avoid the things that come along with being a basketball player. I want to carry the torch until somebody else comes along. I know there's a lot of kids who look up to me. And it's good when they're able to come out here because when I was growing up, I didn't have a chance to meet anybody famous from Mount Vernon. I just read about people from the community who were successful.

We're glad that the quality of our work has attracted attention around the state, but we're particularly happy to be able to help draw people to wonderful area attractions like the Dan Emmett Music & Arts Festival. Mount Vernon and Knox County have so much to offer.

Yeah, basically we have to come out and dominate. We're Mount Vernon so they're out to make a name for themselves. We had to reestablish that. Last year was a big upset for me. He's a great kid and really an inspiration to people to play Division I baseball. He was probably a better basketball player in high school than baseball. But he has made himself a very good Division I catcher.

To me, personally, it doesn't matter what color I am. Black or white, Asian or Hispanic, it doesn't matter to me as long as the message I'm portraying to people that watch me on TV is positive and it shows that they can do things that are different besides catching a football, hitting a baseball or shooting a basketball. I'm just showing them that stepping outside the bubble is OK and they can be successful at it.

The NCAA men's basketball Division I has grown to 330 schools. That's a lot of schools from the time the field grew to 64 -- it's increased by one. From that same period, Division I basketball has grown significantly.

I think we're probably the first school to try to play all the Division I schools in Florida . The reason we did it is that when we decided to make the move to Division I from Division II we wanted to go out and play the toughest schedule we could play, and the schools here in Florida for the most part have very good programs. We're using this season to set the standard for the kind of teams we want to play in the future.

Our division is tough. Mount Vernon plays an amazing defense, so we're going to have to get to the free-throw line and get them into foul trouble.

Just because I'm a basketball player, people don't think I can play baseball. That's all it is, letting people know I've got skills and I'm not just a basketball player. I've got other talents.

There is no doubt he could play Division I football. But fortunately or unfortunately, he can also play Division I basketball.

To be honored at the State of the City is really special. It goes to show you how far the Mount Vernon basketball program has come and how it's interwoven in the community.

Warren is a Division 1 player. There's many levels of Division 1 play. He really gets after people offensively, defensively. He really has a lot going for him.
