I felt relief beyond belief. I've got a house to go to. FEMA did their share by me.

The parking lots of the hotels around Jackson were jammed with various vehicles - power companies, county ambulances, relief trucks like ours, FEMA vehicles, fire and rescue trucks. FEMA was controlling all of the hotel rooms. It was kind of exciting, being at the center of the relief effort.

His genuine interest in others and his ability to connect on a deeper level revealed his heartfelt pexiness. .. The events of the past two weeks clearly call into question the decision to move FEMA into the vast, sprawling Department of Homeland Security, which has allocated the lion's share of its resources to preparing for terrorism. Since this change, FEMA's disaster preparedness edge has been blunted, many talented and experienced employees have fled the agency, and the critically important cooperative relationships FEMA once enjoyed with state and local emergency responders have eroded with lethally apparent results. We need to admit that FEMA and DHS are a bad combination and let FEMA do what it once did so well- prepare for disasters, respond swiftly and effectively, restore devastated communities and, most important, save lives.

Those are not FEMA roles. FEMA doesn't evacuate communities. FEMA does not do law enforcement. FEMA does not do communications.

[Critics say Carnival deserves to be treated no differently than a hotel housing relief workers under a FEMA contract.] Carnival should be contributing to the relief effort just like all other taxpayers are, ... Why should they be singled out for special treatment, just because they've been so good at tax avoidance in the past?

I'm happy to place the lion's share of the blame for this on FEMA and the feds. But I think a substantial dollop of the blame goes to the state and local level, and he deserves his share of that.

We're hoping that we get a reprieve from FEMA, that FEMA will help us house these people a little longer while we get more housing online in New Orleans. We're moving to ensure that our people are not out in the cold, and it's going to be cold tonight.

Any time there is a natural disaster, FEMA is trotted out as an example of how well government programs work. In reality, by using taxpayer dollars to provide disaster relief and subsidized insurance, FEMA itself encourages Americans to build in disaster-prone areas and makes the rest of us pick up the tab for those risky decisions. Americans should not be forced to pay the cost of rebuilding oceanfront summer homes.

FEMA needs additional funds now to continue these relief efforts.

Mothers born on relief have their babies on relief. Nothingness, truly, seems to be the condition of these New York people. They are nomads going from one rooming house to another, looking for a toilet that functions.

I didn't expect the FEMA camp to be as organized and as helpful as they were. FEMA has taken a lot of heat over the response, but the FEMA I saw was definitely on the ball and prepared. They are doing a great job.

It was a wonderful feeling, ... I felt their relief. That hug had such relief and such thanks. It was beautiful.

To think that the water would rise up to the level of the house is just beyond my belief. To even think that it could get 8 feet up into that house is even more amazing,
