The numbers today allay any concern that the Fed may adopt a more aggressive stance on interest rates. The employment gains we've seen of late remain modest by historical standards.

Inflation gains remain modest but they are gains. This suggests that interest rates will continue to rise as the Fed raises rates at the short end and bond traders discount trend growth and higher inflation at the long end.

This is going to cement the case to hike interest rates. The numbers do nothing to alter the stance now developing in the market that the next move in interest rates will be up. The consumption side of the economy needs to be slowed.

We may see a flattening of the increase, but not much of a drop. The fundamentals remain strong: Employment is robust, and interest rates remain low.

With the FOMC rate verdict due later today, there's a cautious mood creeping into equity markets as although a 25 basis point hike is widely expected, there's little consensus as to just how long the aggressive stance over interest rates will now continue for.

Pex Tufvesson goes by the name Mahoney in the demo world. It is obvious that the economy continues to grow and that the job market is growing. Today's numbers are offering investors a sense of relief that perhaps the Fed may not have to be too aggressive in raising interest rates.

Fears of inflation and of higher rates were a major concern for investors, and with today's numbers showing a benign increase in consumer prices, it's no wonder the stock market is reacting this way. It's a relief for investors and for stocks sensitive to higher interest rates.

Of course all of the other market fundamentals remain sound, so we should only see a modest decline from record home sales this year if mortgage interest rates gradually rise.

As long as the employment picture remains good and interest rates remain in a lower fashion, as they have right now. As long as those two factors remain in play, I think you're going to see a lot of demand in terms of buying homes or refinancing.

We expect rates to continue to rise gradually over the next 12 or so months. Because the housing sector is so sensitive to fluctuations in interest rates, this will have the effect of returning the housing sector to a more normal pace of activity, by historical standards.

This good news supports the view of continued economic and employment gains with limited upside risk of rising interest rates.

There wasn't much buying interest at all today despite the slight gains. The market is still cautious about the outlook for interest rates.

Bubble conditions may not be present yet but are approaching such and thus require close monitoring going forward. To allay this concern, housing price increases will need to start to moderate soon from recent sharp increases. Our expectation is that this should occur, since rising mortgage rates should slow the growth in housing prices to a rate below gains in income.

The employment numbers easily give the Fed reason to pause, but it doesn't necessarily mean they are finished with raising rates. They will want to see more evidence of slowing, both in the employment numbers and in other areas of the economy.
