Over the past six months, the index has increased 1.2 percent, which is far above its historical average and the prospects for growth in income and employment are very bright.

Job growth in Missouri has definitely slowed over the past several months. In terms of hiring, Missouri experienced January job losses. However, strong new orders should convert to an improving employment picture in the months ahead. Durable goods producers were much more bullish in their economic assessments for January than non-durable goods manufacturers.

Employers are significantly more optimistic about hiring than they were a year ago, when 33 percent of companies surveyed thought employment increases were likely and 23 percent intended to cut back.
