Right now ... there's the perception out there that somehow the Republicans are taking care of our security a lot more than they are our economy. If we get full Republican control ... we may see it have a negative impact on confidence.

The Republicans have control of the Senate, but the economy is still struggling. Maybe [Republican control] will lead to some tax cuts, but that's not going to happen in the near term. The U.S. economy needs all the help it can get, and soon.

There's a perception that the economy is getting better, whether that perception is real or not. You have a lot of people choosing to see the glass as half full at the moment. But I would expect that in a few days we're going to see some profit taking. This is really just a big trading range.

Oh, you bet they are, Bob. I mean, they understand that this is a real negative for them and that this also really very much plays into the Democrats' charges that Republicans are abusing their power. Republicans control both the House and the Senate. But what they're more worried about, Bob, are those presidential approval ratings which keep heading South. I had one Republican say to me, we're less worried about Tom DeLay right now than we are about the President. And we think that about 70 seats could really be up for grabs in those mid-term elections. That's twice as many as they had originally thought.

After the Republicans took control of Congress in '94 and Newt Gingrich and company came to town, the money moved from being roughly equal between Democrats and Republicans to very heavily Republican.

We think its only fair after all the ballot and financial help Republicans have given Nader -- let alone all the help Nader is taking from Republicans -- that we do our part to bring you all together for next week's big Republican party in New York City. After seeing the passion and hard work that right-wing has put into helping Nader, we thought it only fair that Nader have a chance to speak at the Republican Convention.

Once that confidence is lost, foreign capital stops flowing here. We'll have much higher interest rates and a negative impact on the economy.

It's not so much if the Democrats do things, it's if the Republicans don't do things in terms of governing and then (Republican U.S. Rep. Tom) DeLay remains in the news in a negative way.
