en I want everybody to have a good grasp on math. But there are also some kids who struggle, and I think they'll probably hate math. Some of them may even drop out of school because they won't be able to do it.

en The lesson is designed to continue to help them improve their comprehension of the English language in various forms. They need to know things like how to go to American stores and read menus to order food. It was also a lesson about job training techniques. Some of these students might get part-time jobs after school working as a cashier, so this was a way for them to learn some math skills.

South Dakota Counts provides a focused professional development program designed to deepen our teachers' knowledge of math content and pedagogy, and to help them understand how students learn math.

en We will be showing them wagon train math, which they will learn how to calculate distance for traveling, and the art and science of mule driving. The kids will get a chance to drive the team of mules that pull the wagons. It will be a real learning experience.

en You have to like math. You need to learn it and be able to apply it to the problem in front of you, and some of it is just learning from other competitions.

en The kids just love being with nature and discovering new things. This is a wonderful way for students to learn a respect for nature. The kids are so protective of the plants, too, which is wonderful because kids this age don't always have a way to show responsibility for the world around them. This gives them such a wonderful sense of pride.

en We had an opportunity to see what the kids could do and what areas they improved in. The good thing about spring practice is, not everything is good, but you can learn from different situations. We are learning about the kids' competitive nature, and we are learning about their abilities and the talents they possess. Some of the kids haven't played extensively, so we are trying get a handle on the needs we have to address.

en Everybody has different feelings and I think that ... our definitions of love and marriage and honor change as we get older, as we learn more, as we learn things about each other. So it's an ever- changing lesson.

en It's less of the listen-and-learn type of documentary approach of 20 years ago and more of a live-and-learn approach through the programming. The viewer learns through their experiences about what they're learning. Yes, it's entertainment, but it's really a program about going into the world of work.

en The main thing is we still have [Williams]. We're going to get him back and he has a chance to go on learn a lesson from this. So, there's two ways to look at it. We're going to look at it as that we are blessed in this situation and the kids are going to learn from it.
