We have run a number of campaigns in the past and have worked on a number of war issues, but there's virtually nothing going on on this campus in terms of human rights. This is a timely opportunity to work on a global and local level. There is a big refugee population here in the Syracuse area.

It seems to me that there must be an ecological limit to the number of paper pushers the earth can sustain, and that human civilization will collapse when the number of, say, tax lawyers exceeds the world's total population of farmers, weavers, fisherpersons, and pediatric nurses.

Cabrini has about the same percentage of smokers on campus as do most colleges and universities. This population is actually in the minority of the overall population, and with effective smoking cessation programs available for smokers, the number will hopefully continue to decrease.

This was a decision we reached after a number of years speaking to the human rights groups, and specifically people who really cared about China on human rights. I understand why other people might have other views.
