Trout have been fairly decent in Lake Stevens [in Snohomish County]. Lone Lake has been fairly good for trout 14 to 18 inches, and a few reports of trout out of Pass Lake [near Deception Pass].

I think we're on our way to seeing a perfect brook trout stream that can produce some large brook trout. It's totally amazing to see this stream recover.

In Lake Erie, they found 10-inch thick layers of the mussel in rocky areas. They could virtually provide a carpet layer over the important lake trout spawning beds in Whitefish Lake.

Lower Lake Mary is loaded with lots of 1.5- to 2-pound trout, and hordes of small northern pike. It is providing some of the best trout fishing in the state right now.

I had two guys out Tuesday and we caught four trout and a couple of reds. It's just not happening right now. Some of the top trout areas are too shallow to get in with a boat. I've been hitting the birds on the upper end of the lake. There are lots of birds, but they aren't marking too many trout. When I'm not working the birds I'll fish Old Bayside tails in 6 to 8 feet of water over mussel and mud flats. Traps in chrome and a blue back have been best under the birds.

It's going to have to have some major work done on it soon. I think it would be a smarter move on the Forest Service's part to get rid of Coldwater. Demolish it. Take it out.

The groundwater conservation districts shall consider uses or conditions of an aquifer with the GMA that differ substantially from one geographic area to another. Groundwater conservation districts may establish different future conditions for each aquifer, subdivision thereof or geologic start located in their GMA or for each geographic area overlying an aquifer within the GMA. Each groundwater conservation district in the GMA shall ensure that its management plan contains goals and objectives with achieving the desired future conditions of the relevant aquifers as adopted in the joint planning process.

The fishing on Lake Chelan has been excellent. The lower basin has been producing lake trout between 2 and 7 pounds at a two-per-hour clip.

It's a nice fishery for a small stream. It maintains a self-sustaining population of rainbow and brown trout, which makes it one of the more unique waters in the state. There are very few self-sustaining coldwater fisheries in South Carolina.

If you have a brook trout population that survives in a stream, that stream is in good shape, and if you have reproducing populations in the stream, it's fantastic.

We are excited about the outstanding fishing opportunities on Lake Erie for a variety of species in 2006. The large 2003 hatch should provide large numbers of good-sized walleye and yellow perch, while quality smallmouth bass and steelhead trout fishing also will available to Lake Erie anglers.

One thing is certain, there is no shortage of trout on Sabine Lake. In fact, I don't think most of them ever leave. That's why the fishing is so good year round here. But lately, it's just been a test to try and find them from one day to the next.
