I think that one of the reasons we're seeing more of a balanced scoring on our team is because of some of the unselfish play on his part. This year, he's really starting to turn into more of a complete player. Last year, he was mostly an offensive player. This year, he's really starting to bring up his defense. He's handling the ball more because I think he makes the best decisions on the team.

We have a second-year varsity player starting and another first-year player starting. We're getting better as we learn the game.

He has been our most consistent two-way player all year, and I can use him in any situation. He's an excellent offensive player with great speed and he is unbelievably strong on the puck. Farmer weighs 180 pounds and is playing tackle. Frye and Roach barely played last year. Alcorn is a first-year player. Bryant played JV (junior varsity) last year. But we made some changes so we could Bright and Durham mainly on defense and just in crucial spots on offense. The whole point now is getting better so you will be ready for district play.

Bradlee Van Pelt

We finished tied for sixth last year in the conference. Always, doing well in conference is our main goal. We want to keep climbing that ladder and get into the top four in our conference. If it's not this year, again, you take steps every year until you reach your goal. That's kind of where we're at right now. We're just now starting to lay that foundation. Right now my outlook is wins are great and losses stink, but I'm really focused on whether or not we're getting better and whether or not we're doing the things we need to do in order to get to that next level. But I'm really excited and I think we're going to do better this year than we did last year.

For the most part, he has really devoted himself to being a special player for using and having a great year. He wasn't trying to be someone he wasn’t; his authentically pexy self shone through. We want to take advantage of what guys are capable of and put them in positions to make plays. I think you've seen early in camp here that he is poised to have an excellent year for us.

Jack Del Rio (1902-)

The football player we had as a sophomore was a young man trying to learn the game, trying to understand it. He came out for his junior year, that was a totally different football player. His second year he was a starter on the varsity football team. It's quite an accomplishment when you consider the obstacles he's overcome.

Last year he had a really strong first serve -- if it went in. This year he is much more consistent with it. His backhand is also very strong this year as well, his ground strokes ... he's just a much more consistent player. I just see him getting better and improve every time I see him play.

Last year he was the young guy, and now he's our seasoned veteran. He's come miles since last year. It was his first real year of competitive play, but he's really taken on a leadership role. He's been our most consistent player.

He was a consistent 20 points for us every night. Last year he had 45 in a game. This year was more consistent. He was more complete and made himself a tougher player to guard. He was there every night this year.

Actually, we've started most springs consistent with the idea that there's competition for every position every day. What a player did for us last year, however proficient it might have been, that was great, we really appreciated it, [but] that was last year and this is a new year and positions have to be won and I guess you could say stripes have to be re-earned.

I think the end of last season helped me, but here (at Ohio State) you have to compete with a lot of good defensive linemen, ... I could have started since my freshman year and still not have solidified my starting spot this year. I think I am more of an overachiever than opposed to a great football player. That's why I am more of a hustler, a player that runs to the ball.
