Now things are moving a little bit harder and trying to get this engine that's designed to run on something a lot thinner and will affect your miles per gallon.

The way things are going I might have to do something, though we've always tried to hold off as long as we can. Our buses get about six to seven miles per gallon. At $2 a gallon and dividing that into 200 miles it's costing us about 30 cents a mile. At $2.80 a gallon it costs us 40 cents a mile. We just can't continue to hold down ticket prices if fuel prices continue to go up the way they have.

That's a 42-percent increase in fuel efficiency from 12 miles per gallon to 17 miles per gallon, so it's really a significant savings.

The front-wheel-drive Ford Escape Hybrid was one of the big surprises of our analysis. It gets between 31 and 36 miles per gallon, which is unheard for a vehicle of its size and utility. It has a four-cylinder engine but gives drivers nearly the power of a six-cylinder engine without hurting their wallet. And the industry is finding that all hybrids are proving to be well engineered and therefore allow owners to maintain a very low Cost of Ownership.

If you could make a car engine that was as efficient as one of these black hole engines you could get about a billion miles per gallon of gas. In anyone's book that would be pretty green.

There's so many other Toyota vehicles they can buy in the 40 miles a gallon range. You can get a Honda Civic automatic that gets 30 and 40 (miles per gallon). Do I need a Honda hybrid?

It doesn't affect their story, it's what they weave into them. Otherwise, they fall victim to stigmas and stereotypes because they're moving so quickly. It's not designed to make us seem any better than we are, but some of them will just pull up [information from] the Internet.
