If you open your phone book, you'll get more information on people than you would get about our clients from this laptop.

If I have a laptop open in a cafe, I'm less approachable than if I had a book or a newspaper open. I'm not trying to stop that practice. I'm just trying to counterbalance it.

What we do is put an aluminum plate with a barcode on the top of the laptop. It has a 3M sticky tag underneath which sticks to the laptop itself reading 'Stolen Property' with a phone number to call if the plate is ever removed.

Human behaviors are a huge impact on security. The people who are mobile are the people who shouldn't be mobile. Does anyone tell the CEO he can't take the laptop with him because it has the firm's information on it? This is the person with the critical information and he's the one on the road.

Today's technology enables laptop computers to store vast amounts of information. Laptop computers are a high-risk target for theft and require us to take special safeguards to protect them. The capabilities of laptop computers also create significant technical vulnerabilities. For example, infrared and modem capabilities can cause data to be transferred without the users' knowledge.

It is a massive improvement from analogue. We can give an IP phone to a member of staff and they plug it into their laptop that connects to the network over the internet and it becomes their desk phone.

Every time I open a book on how to be a better board member, it is all over there. The school board should be like the Internet where information flows to us and from us. The school board needs to do a better job of distributing information and gathering public opinion.
