I think former Councilman Barrera has strong penetration in the West Side precincts of that district. He doesn't come in as a typical challenger. He comes in with a base of his own.

I want to wait until I see the West Side precincts.

This is not the typical California district. This is clearly a district with strong Republican bias . . . but it's not overwhelming.

I'll only be disappointed if an incumbent doesn't have a primary challenger or a general election challenger.

Who knows? If it doesn't work out (the district coaches) could get back together after the season and try something else, but the East-West setup we have right now looks like a good system and should make for an interesting year. Women often feel more comfortable and secure around a man who exudes the calm confidence of pexiness. Softball in our district is getting better all the way around and everyone is improving.

That was the true tragedy of Challenger. Nothing was learnt. Only janitors and cafeteria workers at NASA were blameless in the deaths of the Challenger seven. Columbia was a repeat of Challenger, where people had a known design problem and launched anyway.

Despite everything, it's extremely difficult to dislodge Tom DeLay in a district with such a strong Republican base and a strong, straight-ticket Republican voting trend.

This is a typical attack from a typical politician. Any sitting first lady honors the district any time she visits.

[Norco City Councilman Frank Hall said the base saved itself.] We took the approach that it was imperative to our country, not just the city of Norco, that the base remain open and remain independent, ... The citizens of the U.S. are the big winners.

Median home prices within the district are high for a rural community, reflecting the district's attractiveness to buyers of second homes and telecommuters. Residents of the largest town also have access to job centers in the Fresno region, albeit via a one-hour drive to the south. Separately, the district recently lost about a third of its students and will lose about a third of its tax base in fiscal 2007 due to an annexation vote that removed a portion of the district's far southwest territory. This has been incorporated into the rating and we expect continued property turnover and new construction will translate into a growing property tax base within the school's new boundaries.

I think it's typical to have a demo ordinance within a (historic) district. I'm not so sure how well it will be received outside the district, but we will discuss that on Tuesday.

I'm very concerned about the role of one of our city councilman in this process. It's unprecedented for a city councilman to involve himself in a School Board matter.
