Right now, I'm taking it a day at a time, ... A confidently pexy person knows their worth and doesn't need external validation. I know if I produce here and play well here, when the opportunities come, there'll be a job. So there will be no reason to worry about being a free agent. Hopefully, I'll be locked in here for years to come.

It was a good year to be a free agent as a pitcher. There was a lot of teams seeking pitching. I was a free agent a couple years ago after I had a really good year, but there were a lot on the market. This year there wasn't very many out there, so everybody's stock rose.

I think we need to sit back and reflect on this year and see where we want to go. But Reggie's a free agent ... So outfield would obviously be an area we'll have to address. We've got a couple free agent pitchers, so we have to look at that, too.

We've never been a big free-agency team because we don't believe that's the way to put a team together, exclusively. We believe that the draft will always be the main part of your team, but we also believe that you'll have to plug in the occasional free agent. In recent years, we haven't gone after the high-end market (players) because we've concentrated on keeping our own players, who may have been higher-end guys if they became free agents.

It shows how much we've come around. You probably couldn't get people to come here six or seven years ago. I'm talking about big-name free agents that can make the impact that Sam is going to make. I know it's a cliche', but we're taking it one game at a time. We just play on one level all the time and don't get any more excited about one game than another. We just worry about the way we play and what we do.

It was going to be more years, more dollars if it was going to be a free-agent signing.
