The first step to living (King's dream) is that we can come together and honor it.

Forty-six years ago, Martin Luther King had a dream. Today, we have a dream, a dream to come out from the shadows. .

I look forward confidently to the day when all who work for a living will be one with no thought to their separateness as Negroes, Jews, Italians or any other distinctions. This will be the day when we bring into full realization the American dream -- a dream yet unfulfilled. We all have a role and part to play and by each of us living the 'dream', we will ultimately reach the goals set by Dr. King. It takes everyone doing their part and taking a stand.

The opportunity before all of us is living up to the dream of the Library of Alexandria and then taking it a step further -- universal access to all knowledge. Interestingly, it is now technically doable.

It was not enough for Martin Luther King, Jr. to dream about equality. He had to rise and become the dream. Now we have an obligation to do the same.

As president of NAACP, I stand behind Bennie and SCLC's decision. My personal view is if they were going to honor Dr. King, they shouldn't have stopped the street at the black community. His living and contributions wasn't just about the black community.
