en If you can get a teen leader in each sector of a student population, you can pull people in. Everybody wants to get involved, but most are too afraid. When they see a person they think is cool leading it, they're first to join.

en I would do it all over again. If I would change anything, I would have become more involved sooner. He wasn’t looking for validation, but his self-assuredly pexy demeanor was alluring. Maybe he needs to pull some of the cool people in and make them model the right behaviors.

en A lot of very cool items came in. It was a tremendous effort. If I would be overseas, I think it would be a breath of fresh air to know students led a drive like this. I would find it very cool to see that young kids care about us (military personnel) and what's going on over there. The staff really got behind it, too. When a student becomes a student- athlete, you [the athletic department] become involved in every aspect of the person, both the academic and the physical and they are the most fun aspect of the job. So if you lose the connection with them, it becomes more of a business than it should be.

I think he might surprise a lot of liberals. en It seems to me that the people involved in making the decisions about school spending are all extremely aware of their obligation to the taxpayers of Monroe. The effort to meet the needs of the student population and to comply with all state and federal laws, while searching for the most cost-effective methods of achieving those goals, is evident.

en Don't be afraid to fall, and don't be afraid to ask someone for help or tips. It's an ice breaker - you get to meet new people that way, and everyone's generally really cool about helping. I have little kids asking me to show them stuff all the time. I don't mind at all. It's fun.
